田中正造伝記51(日本語と英語)

この時の田中正造の服装は
紋付き袴、当時の正装でした。
130年以上前の12月なので、現在では考えられない寒空でした。
しかし、死を賭して直訴に挑まんとする正造にとっては、さしたる問題ではありませんでした。
午前10時30分。
天皇を乗せた馬車が皇居を出発。
11時に貴族院(現在の千代田区霞ヶ関)
に入りました。
この時、大勢の見物客の中に正造もいました。また、石川半山の指示で若い新聞記者も同行していました。
正造は、「前に行かせて欲しい。」
と、見物客の間を通り、最前列に陣取りました。
11時20分。
天皇を乗せた馬車が議事堂をでて
皇居に帰ろうとしたその時。
「お願いでござります‼️お願いでござります‼️」この叫びとともに正造は馬車の前に走り出しました。
そして、懐にしまっていた直訴状を差し出そうとしました。                       

しかし、老骨の身で走ったためか、前のめりに転倒してしまい、馬車を警備していた警察に取り押さえられてしまいました。

その日のうちに牢獄に入れられてしまいました。

これで5度目の投獄。同行していた記者は、あわただしく本社に戻りました。

「田中翁の直訴は失敗しました。」と。

Shozo Tanaka was dressed in a crested hakama,the formal attire of the time.
Since it was December more than 130 years ago, it was cold weather that would be unthinkable now.
However,this was not a problem for Shozo, who was willing to risk death to appeal directly to the Emperor.

10：30 a.m.
The carriage carrying the Emperor left the Imperial Palace, entering in the House of Peers at 11 o'clock.                                            Shozo was among the many spectators at this time.Also accompanying him was a young newspaper reporter under the direction of Ishikawa Hanzan.   
Shozo asked to be allowed to go to the front, and he went through the crowd of spectators to take his place in the front row.                    11：20 a.m.                                                        Just as the carriage carrying the Emperor was leaving the Capitol and heading back to the Imperial Palace.                                          ”Please do me a favor!! Please do me a favor!!”                                                                With this cry, Shozo ran in front of the carriage to hand over a letter of complaint that he had been keeping in his pocket.           

However,perhaps because he ran with his old body, he fell forward and was captured by the police guarding the carriage.

He was put in jail that day.
This was his fifth incarceration.
The reporter who had accompanied him returned to headquarters in a hurry.
The reporter said, "O.Tanaka's  direct appeal failed."
