田中正造伝記50(日本語と英語)

さすがは文筆家と言いますか、幸徳秋水の直訴文は精緻に練られたものでした。
しかし、田中正造はあえて注文を付けました。
「幸徳さん、申し訳ないが、手直ししていただけまいか？」
幸徳は尋ねました。
「お気に召さないのですか？」
正造は続けました。
「いや、文は素晴らしいものです。
ただ。。」
「ただ？」
「私は足尾の被害の元である鉱業を差し止めて欲しいだけなのだが、いささか体制批判に傾き過ぎているのではないかと。」
「そうですね、命を投げ捨てるのは
正造さん、貴方でしたね。では、少し手直ししましょう。」
「申し訳ない。」
実際は、少しどころでは済まなくて、ほとんど訂正の朱色が付けられたものとなりました。
それでも幸徳が応じたのは、正造の思いに心を打たれたからでしょう。

12月に、一応直訴文は完成しました。
一応、としたのは、幸徳秋水の直訴文に、正造が更に訂正を加えたからです。
この頃、第16回帝国議会の日程が決定し、12月10日に明治天皇が議会開催の詔をされる事になっていました。
言い換えれば、直訴をするのはこの日しかなかったという事です。
この日の朝、田中正造は滞在していた
旅籠で、湯漬飯をすすりました。
かつて織田信長が、桶狭間に向かう際、湯漬飯を食べたように、湯漬は戦飯の象徴と言えました。
正造、61歳。

As might be expected of a writer,Koutoku Shusui's direct appeal was elaborately crafted.
However, Shozo Tanaka dared to ask a amendment to it.
Shozo said, ”Mr. Koutoku, I'm sorry, but could you please rework it for me?”
Koutoku asked, ”Don't you like it?”.

Shozo went on to say, ”No, the statement is a great one, but. .”                                                ”But?” Koutoku repeated.                                  Shozo said, ”I only want the mining industry, the source of the damage at Ashio, to be stopped, but I think this statement may be too much emphasis on criticism of the political system.”                                                Koutoku nodded and said, ”Yes, it was you, Shozo-san, who threw away your life. Now, let's rework it a bit.”                                          ”I am so sorry.”Shozo bowed his head.   

In fact, the sentence was corrected more than a little, and most of the sentences were marked in red ink for correction.
Nevertheless, Koutoku agreed to the revision, probably because he was moved by Shozo's thought.
In December, a letter of direct appeal was a tentatively completed.
The reason I said ”tentatively”was because Shozo made further revision to Koutoku Shusui's writing of direct appeal.                      

Around this time, the schedule for the 16th Imperial Diet was set, and the Emperor Meiji was to issue a decree to hold the Diet on December 10.
In other words, this was the only day to make a direct appeal.
On the morning of this day, Shozo Tanaka sipped yusuke-meshi (boiled rice in the hot water) at an inn where he was staying.
As Oda Nobunaga once ate yusuke-meshi on his way to Okehazama, yusuke was a symbol of war meals.

Shozo was 61years old.
