New, next-level vegan bacon is coming to retailers nationwide 

and it’s made by Colorado-based Planterra Foods

—a plant-based subsidiary 

of Brazil’s JBS, 

the world’s largest beef company.

The company aims to keep its ingredient labels simple and the bacon is made by a protein blend of rice flour, wheat, non-GMO soy, pea protein.  

It replicates the fat 

and meat layers 

of animal bacon 

and delivers a higher grade of bacon that can be cooked to crispy or chewy. 

JBS has been in the animal meat business for 167 years and while it will likely not end its core business any time soon, 

the company does want to be part of a future where plant-based meat becomes the norm, 

particularly in light of its climate goals to reach net zero by 2040.

“We knew we had to jump right into the future and into innovation and double-down on how we get to the future.”

Spokesman said in a statement.

JBSは167年にわたり動物性食肉事業を展開しており、近いうちにその中核事業を終了することはないでしょうが、特に2040年までにネットゼロを達成するという気候変動に関する目標を考慮し、植物性食肉が主流となる未来の一翼を担いたいとしています。
