ぼくが好きなアーティスト、PentatonixのYouTube動画を観ていたら、他の視聴者が投稿したこんなコメントを見つけました。
ん?どういう意味だ?
「昔はファンだったけど、この作品を聴いたら、私はもう完全にエアコンです」?
最初はこの曲を褒めてるのかディスってるのかさえも曖昧でしたが、"masterpiece"といってるので、おそらく褒めてるんだろうな、と。
で、調べてみました。
なるほど〜!!
"fan"には、「〜のファン」「扇風機」というダブルミーニングあるから、それを利用して
「もともと、(優しい風を送る)扇風機だったけど、この名曲聴いて(ガンガン冷やす)エアコンになっちゃった」
つまり、
「もともとファンだったけど、この名曲聴いて、大ファンになっちゃった」
という意味になるんですね。
ただ、この日本語訳だと元の英語のような面白さを表現できてないですね…。
