Spring in Japan is always about Cherry blossams

Ohanami (お花見)　

We call cherry blossome "Sakura" in Japanese. Sakura lives only for two weeks. Sakura lives only for two weeks. The flowers bloom from around March to April. "Ohanami" is the custom where people enjoy foods and drinks under trees. Many people are keen on finding the perfect spots. Also, night ohanami is fabulous with illuminations. 

Things you need for OHANAMI
To enjoy the OHANAMI, you should bring picnic blanket, foods and drinks with you. As for foods, you could get "Bento", lunch box, everywhere such as convenience stores, super markets. Drinks are must for OHANAM, and beer should be the best match for OHANAMI. 

OHANAMI Spots

Sumaura Koen Park (須磨浦公園)

Sumaura Koen Park is famous for its cherry blossom trees. Especially, the night illumination is stunning. At mid day, having OHANAMI there is also nice. Oji-Koen Zoo (王子公園)

Oji-Koen Zoo has cherry blossom street. You could see many cherry blossom trees by just taking a walk. At night, you could enjoy the zoo and cherry blossom together at once. Here is the best for animal lovers.

Hiking & Picnic

Mt. Maya (摩耶山)

This is the best spot for hiking for bot beginners and intermidiate levels. It takes 4 hours to go up the mountain. The view from the "Kikuseidai" will refresh you from the four hours hike. If you get tired on the way you go to the top, you could chose to get on three cable cars. You also could see water fall 

Meriken Park

This is a big and nice park to grab a picnic! You could spend a great time with your family in the park. Around the park, there is a big shopping mall and a movie theater. For the details, please see the post below. 

Fishing

Suma Hiraiso Marine Fishing Park (須磨平磯海づり公園)

You can fish and stay as there as long as you want. This is right next to Sumaura Koen Park. It is good if you go there after seeing the cherry blossom.

Suma Rikyu Koen

At Suma Rikyu Koen Park, there are more than 180kinds and 4000 pieces of rose in "Royalties Rose Garden". They have flower shops, flower arrangement work shops, rose gardening workshops in the season. Nunobiki-Harb Garden

On the way to Mt. Maya from Shin-Kobe Station, there is a flower town which has varieties of colorful flowers. You could see the beautiful scenery of Kobe as a whole from the garden. 

Rokko Alpine Botanical Garden

This garden is on the top of Mt. Rokko. It is the best location to rest during the hiking to the top of the mountain. Details are written in the post below.
