無駄なこと。

　漸く秋らしい季節になってきましたが、みなさんいかがお過ごしでしょうか。私は半袖の乱に敗れて慌てて長袖のシャツにアイロンをあてています。

　さて、いよいよ色々なことが動き始めたという感覚がみなさんの中にもあるのではないでしょうか。私の大学でも水面下で少しずつ動いています。まず、ずっと中止されていた留学の再開に向けての準備が始まりました。実際に行けるのは来年の春休みからになりそうですが、それまでに受け入れ先との交渉や渡航計画の策定、説明会の実施等を行くまでにやることがたくさんあります。私は留学の担当ではないのですが、担当者がなかなか適当な旅行会社が見つからないとのことだったので、「私が知っている旅行会社を紹介しましょうか？」と声をかけたらすっかり巻き込まれてしまいました。

　その前には学内に放置された倉庫があってずっと使われずにいたので、「あの倉庫学生と一緒に片付けますよ。」と事務局に告げたらぜひお願いしますとのことなので、倉庫の片付けもこちらですることになりました。さらには地元の企業さんと連携したいと思っていろいろなところに声をかけていたのですが、この１～２週間で急に返事が返ってきて連日アポで空き時間がほとんどなくなってしまいました。

　こんな風に堰を切ったように一気にすべてが動き出しています。一方で学生の方は夏休みが延長しているのか、後期授業の中だるみなのかわかりませんが、イマイチ反応が遅いと感じています。「そろそろどこか旅行に行く計画でも立てたら？」と提案してみますが、「そうですね。」の一言であっさり撃沈させられてしまうので、心の中で「煮え切らない奴らだな。」とひとり眉間にしわを寄せています。恐らく学生の立場だとあまり社会の変化というものを感じなくても生きていけるのだろうなと少しマウントを取ってしまいました。

　だからといって大学教員一人がシャカリキに学生の心に火をつけまくってもたかが知れています。やはり、多くの人たちの力を借りて彼ら・彼女らのやる気に持たせることが重要なので、引き続き外部の人たちのネットワークを広げていこうと思います。今日は夕方からの授業だけしかないですが、もうすぐしたら大学へ向かう予定です。とにかく今日も淡々と学生の成長のための準備を進めていきます。

　これから大学教員になる人には、目に見えない地道な準備にこそ全力を注いでほしいと思います。それは、旅行会社の紹介や倉庫の清掃といった一見関係がない仕事かもしれませんが、それでも手を抜かずに取り組む姿勢を学生に見せ続けて欲しいと思います。

　（車を買い替えるための銀行を走り回っている准教授でした。銀行の窓口に行ったのに、電話のオペレーターの指示に従って画面入力させられたことに「これ窓口意味あるの？」と思ってしまいました。ちゃんと目の前のお客さんの相手してよね！！）

What a waste.

 It's finally the fall season. How is everyone doing? I am ironing a long-sleeved shirt in a hurry after losing the short-sleeved fight.

 Now, I think there is a feeling among you that things are finally starting to move. Even in my college, it moves little by little under the surface. First of all, preparations for the resumption of study abroad, which had been suspended for a long time, began. It seems that I can actually go there from next spring vacation, but by then, I have a lot of things to do before I negotiate with the host college, draw up a travel plan and hold a briefing. I am not in charge of studying abroad, but the person in charge didn't seem to be able to find a suitable travel agency, so when I called out "Shall I introduce a travel agency that I know?" I was completely involved.

 Before that, there was an abandoned warehouse on campus and it had not been used for a long time, so when I told the office that "I will clean up with that warehouse student.", they would definitely ask me to do so, so I decided to clean up the warehouse myself. In addition, I wanted to work with local companies, so I talked to various places, but I got a reply all of a sudden in the last 1 ~ 2 weeks, and I had almost no free time due to daily appointments.

 All of them are moving at once like this. On the other hand, students don't know if their summer vacation is extended or they feel sluggish during the second semester, but they seem to be slow to respond. I suggest "Why don't you plan to go somewhere soon?", but I am easily sunk by the word "Let me see.", so I am alone in my heart with wrinkles between my eyebrows saying "They can't make up their minds." I thought maybe I could live without feeling much social change from a student's point of view, so I took a little mount.

 However, it is no wonder that a single university teacher works hard to set the students' hearts on fire. After all, it is important to motivate them with the help of many people, so I will continue to expand the network of people outside the company. I only have classes from the evening today, but I plan to go to the university soon. Anyway, we will prepare for the growth of the students in a calm manner today.

 For those who are going to become university teachers, I would like them to put all their efforts into invisible and steady preparation. It may be a seemingly unrelated job such as introducing a travel agency or cleaning a warehouse, but I would like students to continue to show their attitude of not cutting corners.

 (I was an associate professor driving around banks to buy a new car. When I went to the bank window, I was forced to input the screen according to the instructions of the telephone operator, and I thought, "Is this a window?" Take care of the customer in front of you!!)
