日本とのつながり43〜神々しさ〜

ギリシャのメテオラには高さ20〜400mの尖塔状の岩塊と岩の上に築かれた修道院が24棟見られる。

これは11世紀ごろにギリシャ正教の修道士たちが移住してできたものだ。
メテオラは神への祈りと瞑想に没頭したい修道士たちにとって理想郷といえる場所だった。

修道院は縄ばしごや滑車を使い、命がけで建築された。
そして、より天に近い場所で神と向き合うことを目指した。

日本にも優美な寺院がある。
法隆寺だ。

法隆寺は670年に焼失し、８世紀初頭に再建された。
世界最古の木造建築である。
五重塔の心柱は屋根とつながっておらず、地震に強い。
回廊の柱はギリシャ建築で見られたエンタシスという中央が膨らんだ装飾美を併せ持つ。

これらの遺産が放つ敬虔な精神や古代人の美的センスから神々しさを感じないだろうか。

Connection with Japan 42 ~Divineness~
In Meteora, Greece, there are 24 towers and 20-400m-high steeple blocks and monasteries built on the rocks.

This was the result of the migration of Greek Orthodox monks around the 11th century.
Meteora was an ideal place for monks who want to immerse themselves in prayer and meditation on God.

The monastery was constructed with the help of rope ladders and pulleys betting on life.
And they aimed to face God in a place closer to heaven.

There are also elegant temples in Japan.
It is Horyuji.

Horyuji was burnt down in 670 and was rebuilt in the early 8th century.
It is the oldest wooden building in the world.
The central pillar of the five-storied pagoda is not connected to the roof.
Therefore, this building is strong against earthquakes.
The pillars of the corridor also have the aesthetic beauty of the central part swelled called entasis, which was seen in Greek architecture.

Wouldn't you feel divine from the pious spirit of these heritage and the aesthetic sense of the ancients?
