旅行に行くなら「土砂降りのハワイ」か「快晴の神奈川」か

Weather is a fundamental factor to decide a quality of travels. But what if you have some choices of both places and weather?

Of course, we always hope for the best weather during a trip. Under a bad weather, what we can do would be limited as we cannot fully enjoy outdoor activity. It is possible to plan indoor activities and fill some days with them; however, people would be thinking like, "If only the weather were better..."

So now, you have two choices.

Hawaii in heavy rain or Kanagawa in fine weather?

The debate topic is: Which trip is better; Hawaii in heavy rain or Kanagawa in fine weather?

Here are some settings for this debate.

We assume ...

・that this is a 3 day trip (2泊3日).

・that we pay for everything for your choice (Hawaii being more expensive).

・no regulation about the group size.

・no regulation about the purpose of the trip.

Before you start thinking about your side and build your logic, please note that it is up to you to imagine how big a group is and what the purpose of the trip is. You can imagine just a solo-trip or a family trip, and the purpose of trip could be anything, such as food, entertainment, or sightseeing.

Yet, these factors are optional, so you don't have to include them in your argument. It could be either a powerful tool or a risk to add specific information because you will probably be asked a lot of counter-arguments if your logic is not spotless. So, you may not try this unless you are confident.

Again, you should always remember that you craft your argument in a way that is applicable to as many people as possible. Please think about this; which opinion gets more agreement from audience:

【Argument "A"】
A family trip in Kanagawa in fine weather is better than Hawaii in heavy rain.
【Argument "B"】
A solo trip in Kanagawa in fine weather is better than Hawaii in heavy rain.

If the audience has more families than single people, Argument A will be more favored. Similarly, if there are more single people than families, Argument B will win. I am not saying that you should decide these pieces of information and stick with it, but giving a thought on these factors would be a good spice in your reasons.

If you have some time, please pay attention to "how can I make my argument more favorable by more people?" Essentially, a debate is a battle to make your argument better than that of opponents'.

Now, off you go!

Please let me know if you have any questions.
