Cait’s Theme –Piano Version–,–Guitar Version–,–Violin Version–
Track 6-18: Cait’s Theme –Piano Version–
The world of OCTOPATH TRAVELER II includes gramophones that can be used for a kind of minor in-game sound test. After completing quests to collect three versions of “Cait’s Theme” on record, players can play them on this device. I received the request to arrange a gramophone-ready version of this piece with very little notice before recording started, so it was prepared in a bit of a rush, haha!
The basic approach I took was to give performers the melody, chords, and general direction, and then record their improvised versions of the tune. For this piano version, I play the piano myself.
Track 6-19: Cait’s Theme –Guitar Version–
This guitar version is performed by Takayuki “Kojiro” Sasaki (@kojiro_guitar), who handled all acoustic guitar duties for this game. Like the other versions, the performance was improvised.
I think the guitar version has a certain ennui quite unlike the feel of the original.
Track 6-20: Cait’s Theme –Violin Version–
This violin version was improvised by Atsuki Yoshida (@ats_vl), an OCTOPATH TRAVELER regular.
Atsuki always brings a broad variety of violin performance techniques to the table, but I couldn’t help thinking to myself, “He can produce an improvisation this fantastic from just the melody and chords?! I should always do things this way!” Unfortunately, I don’t think that will be possible, haha!
It’s precisely because these tracks are bonuses, in a way, that I asked for improvised performances.
