今回は1996年に発売された浜田省吾のコンピレーションアルバム『ROAD OUT "TRACKS"』より、『IN THE STILL OF THE NIGHT～MAYBE』について。

浜田省吾『IN THE STILL OF THE NIGHT～MAYBE』

『IN THE STILL OF THE NIGHT～MAYBE』はアルバム『ROAD OUT "TRACKS"』の9曲目。
『ROAD OUT "TRACKS"』は同時発売された映像作品『ROAD OUT "MOVIE"』のサウンドトラックという趣旨で制作され、既発曲リメイク、ライブ音源、洋楽のカバー曲などで構成されているアルバムです。
1曲目の『A PLACE IN THE SUN』は初めて人前で歌った曲で、今回の『IN THE STILL OF THE NIGHT～MAYBE』は浜田省吾のルーツのひとつであるドゥワップのカバーでもあります。

『IN THE STILL NIGHT』はザ・ファイヴ・サテンズの楽曲で、『MAYBE』はシャンテルズの楽曲となっています。
どちらも原曲ならではの良さがありますし、浜田省吾がカバーしたことで生まれた良さもありますね。

『IN THE STILL OF THE NIGHT～MAYBE』は『ROAD OUT "TRACKS"』のアルバムの中では、ライブ中の休憩時間のような位置付けの曲ですね。
その昔、このアルバムを好んで聴いていた時はカバー曲であるのを知らず、原曲があることを知って衝撃を受けましたね。
どちらも名曲です。
