The SNS actions that were realized in the online work camp.

Good evening!

The second day of the PEKALONGAN WEB CAMP2 program has just ended successfully.

In this article, I would like to reflect on how to make sense of the social networking activities in the online work camp that we conducted today for our work.

Our actions before Covit-19

Our work camps are roughly divided into the following categories: environment, education, culture, architecture, development, agriculture, and disaster relief.

We sympathize with the issues that the co-hosting organizations are earnestly working on, and we go to the sites to move our hands and feet together.

This is the basis of our programs.

So, when people ask me, "What do you do? We have to answer "everything" when people ask us what we do.

The volunteer members who visited the site continue to think about the host city, which has since become their "second home.

The friends who work together become assets for a lifetime.

As volunteers come and go, the host communities continue to work hard to solve the problems they face today.

The best part of Real Work Camp

Going out into the field and working with the local people to solve their problems.

In most cases, it was based on physical work, which then led to enlightening and educational activities.

I remember that during the work camp in Thailand, we used this slogan instead of "Itadakimasu" before every meal.

WORKING TOGETHER
EATING TOGETHER
SLEEPING TOGETHER

Working together, eating together, and sleeping together.

Literally, we were living together in sleeping bags.

There are some members who have a hard time with the unfamiliar environment, but in most cases, they get used to it in no time and feel nostalgic about it after returning home.

However, it is unlikely that we will be able to have this kind of experience in the Corona disaster for a while longer.

The Blind Spot of Real Workcamps

In 2020, I had the opportunity to participate in a roundtable discussion where we exchanged information on how other work camp organizations were spending their time.

There, I strongly felt that if we are going to have an online work camp, we need to rethink the definition of work.

Up until now, work has been mainly about moving the body and working up a sweat. However, by going to places far away from my daily life, there were things that I could not do there.

For example, if there was something I didn't know, I would say, "I'll look it up when I get back home," because I didn't have a good enough Internet environment.

However, this did not happen, and there were many things that were forgotten forever.

There were also many things that I forgot forever.

This is also something that is hard to realize.

When the program ended, the enthusiasm cooled down.

What we can do now in this environment

The Covit-19 disaster has hit the work camp industry hard, as it should.

We can't actually go to the site.

We can't cook or eat together.

We can't live together.

Most of our activities are outlawed by Covit-19.

But we can't go through this period without doing something.

So, we decided to organize an online work camp starting in 2021.

Vietnam, Cambodia, and Indonesia.

There is a limit to what we can do online.

However, we needed to determine what could only be done online and continue to look at the significance of the program.

The SNS Action

Today was the first time that we incorporated the implementation of SNS posting actions into our program.

We will come up with a hashtag and post it all at the same time together.

From the previous discussion, we decided to divide into two teams: the Instagram team and the Tiktok team to implement the action.

We want to create an opportunity for the younger generation to become interested in environmental issues.

We may be able to provide opportunities through social networking sites to people who have not received information before.

A post with a heartfelt message may change someone's life someday.

First, let's try posting one.

Connect with others through hashtags, and together with your friends, you will be able to find your next goal.

Although the time available for social networking actions was limited, we were able to successfully achieve the outputs we had originally planned.

I would like to take the time to ask the participants what they felt through today's activities another time.

Conclusion

The next open event, "Mangrove Youth Summit 3" is scheduled for Saturday, January 22, from 3:00 pm.

This is an online event run by the members of the Online Work Camp.

Participating members in the third year of junior high school are also scheduled to be guest speakers.
