【へっぽこ英会話７Months⑤】都知事選やアラスカの市長選など、ミネソタ出身の講師と話す
今日は、ミネソタ州出身でアラスカ在住の講師と雑談。
朝７時ごろに会話しているので、時差の関係で、アメリカやメキシコなどに住む講師にレッスンしてもらうことが多い。
（アラスカだとちょうど１４時くらい。）
ちなみに、ミネソタはココ↓
東京は、連日暑い。
今日も朝１０時以降から３５度以上。
しかしながら涼しいイメージのアラスカでさえ、２２度という。
朝も昼も夜も。
一日中、気温が下がることはないらしい。
寝られないと言っていた。
つまり世界中、異常気象である。
どの講師とも気候の話で盛り上がる。良くも悪くも。

さて今回も雑談である。
昨日ちょうど都知事選があったので、それにも触れた。
政治の話は、日本語で説明するのも難しいのに・・・英語だとボロボロだ。
いつか流暢に話せるようになるのだろうか。
以下、講師との話を書き起こしてみた。
講師の話は太文字にしてある。
What does your family do on the weekend when it's so hot?
What do you do? Do you just stay inside or do you go shopping?
Yesterday, my family and I went shopping because it's cool inside the store.
My son's birthday is next month, so we bought him a present.
My daughter chose the gifts.
They were a yukata robes and pajamas.
At first, we wanted to buy toys, but we couldn't find anything suitable.
I'm a little sad because my son is not a baby anymore.
家の中にいますか、それとも買い物に行きますか？
昨日は店内が涼しいので、家族と買い物に行きました。
来月息子の誕生日なので、プレゼントを買いました。
プレゼントは娘が選びました。
浴衣とパジャマです。
最初はおもちゃを買おうと思ったのですが、適当なものが見つかりませんでした。
息子はもう赤ちゃんではないので悲しいです。

His birthday is on Sunday.
we will celebrate it together.
He can't eat cake yet.
we will prepare a cake that other family members like.
I like fruit tart cake.
I'm looking forward to eating it.
And I'm going to take a lot of pictures.
Oh, that's good.
彼の誕生日は日曜日です。
家族で一緒にお祝いします。
彼はまだケーキを食べることができません。
他の家族が好きなケーキを用意します。
私はフルーツタルトケーキが好きです。
食べるのが楽しみです。
そして、写真をたくさん撮るつもりです。
ああ、それはいいですね。
What's the news?
All I hear from Japan is just about the temperature.
But is there anything happening politically or with the good for the economy? Or is there any festivals, any holidays coming up?
Yesterday, there was a Tokyo gubernatorial election.
so my family and I went to vote.
The current governor won.
you had the election yesterday.
Yeah, she will work for the wants of the female population maybe or the women voters, working women.
日本からは気温のことばかり聞こえてきます。
でも、政治的に何か起きているのでしょうか、経済に良いことはありますか？
あるいは、お祭りや休日が近づいているのでしょうか？
昨日は東京都知事選挙があったので、家族と投票に行きました。
現知事が勝ちました。
昨日選挙があったのですね。
そうです。彼女は女性や女性有権者、働く女性の要望のために働くかもしれません。
When do you have the national election for president?
When does that happen?
The prime minister will be decided in September.
The current prime minister is unpopular, so I predict he will not be re-elected.
in Japan, the people cannot directly vote for the prime minister.
It is decided by members of parliament.
It is the people who decide those members of parliament.
I see. Okay.
いつ行われるのですか？
9月に首相が決定します。
現首相は不人気なので、再選されないと予想しています。
日本では、国民が首相に直接投票することはできません。
国会議員が決めます。
その国会議員を決めるのは国民です。
分かりました。
we have our mayor election.
mayoral is in another two months.
usually we have a Republican state.
But Minnesota was a democratic state.
But things are changing all the time.

通常、私たちの州は共和党です。
しかし、ミネソタは民主党の州でした。
しかし、物事は常に変化しています。
