The tyranny of merit

One good thing of English books is it repeats the statements for manytimes and is easy to follow. But it's also means it is lengthy and redundant, which sometimes become an obstacle for English learner who can't scam the book but can read slowly. (It's totally irrelevant to the contents of book )

Providential: 摂理（進学）

The book repeats the word "providential faith" but I don't get the meaning. 

Divine intervention 

I didn't know this is a theological word.

I know the song but I didn't know ウィッチクラフトワークス has it as a theme (According to this matome blog https://otokake.com/matome/Yvo52W). I didn't find any standard translation. (I guess there should be one because Christian theology is somehow influential in Japan and many people research it. I would translate it as  神の思し召し？) 

sanction/sanctify 

While sanction means punishment, sanctify means regarding something as sacred. It is confusing...

Ecclesiastes: コヘレトの言葉 

知らんがな。

secular=worldly

The book is now citing Jackson Lears to explain how Calvinist thinking is connected to harsh meritocracy and meritocracy's emphasis on human efforts deprive of imagination for uncontrollability of life.
