さて、今日はタイトルの通り、unsatisfiedって「スッキリしない」という意味合いで使うこともあるのか。ふーん。と思った話です。
Okay, so in today's episode, as mentioned in the title, I would like to talk about the word "Unsatisfied".
My focus is the use of "unsatisfied" which is used when you feel something is stuck in your mind.
先日、旦那とLessons in chemnistry というApple TVでやっているテレビシリーズを見ていたんですね。
Recently, my husband and I watched Lessons in Chemistry which is a TV series on Apple TV.
このお話のあらすじは1950年代のリケジョの方のお話です。
その当時の「女性は家庭にいるべきだ」という風潮によって、
ものすごく才能があるのに、科学者として働くことを許されない。という方の話です。
紆余曲折あって、お茶の間のお料理番組のホストになるのですが、
科学的な視点からの解説付きのお料理番組が有名になって…
というような話です。
The story is about a female chemist in the 1950s. At the time, society forces women to belong to the domestic sphere, which does not allow the main character to work as a chemist. After many twists and turns, she becomes a host of a TV cooking show. However, she is becoming popular and famous for adding her scientific perspective to ordinary dishes.

ちなみに紹介してないんですが、この原作を昨年読みまして。
個人的には2023年でいちばん面白かった本です。
仕事以外の時間ずっとこの本を読んでたというレベルで面白かったです。
The drama is based on the novel of the same title. Although I did not talk about the review of the book, actually the book was the best book I read in 2023. I could not stop reading the book except for eating time.
さて、本題のUnsatisfiedに戻りまして、
うちの旦那がね、このドラマ見終わった後に、
「Unsatisfied」だったって言ったんですよ。
Anyway, let's get back to the topic 'unsatisfied'.
After finishing the show, my husband commented he felt "Unsatisfied".
よくよく聞いてみるとスッキリしなかったと。
I was not sure of his intention then, so I asked about it. It seems like he felt something was stuck.
確かに、原作は蒔いた伏線をキレイに回収してはぁスッキリしたって感じだったのですが、
テレビシリーズの方は、ちと詰め込みすぎた感があって、
蒔いた伏線がキレイに回収しきれずに終わった感じがしました。
（キレイに終わりますが、原作を知っているとスッキリ感が違う）
Yeah, foreshadowing comes together at the end of the original novel, which makes it satisfying.
On the other hand, the TV show was, I mean, trying to put the contents from the novel as much as they could and the foreshadowing did not come together at the end. Although the show itself was good, we did not feel 120% satisfied.
Unsatisfied って直訳すると、不満足な といった意味合いがあると思うのですが、
今回のようにスッキリしない、もやもやするなぁ ていう時も使うのか。
ふーんって思ったのでした。
If you translate the word 'unsatisfied' directly into Japanese, it would be '不満足な’. However, I learned that vocabulary is used when you feel something unclear or something stuck in your mind.
そんなわけで、今日のエピソードでお伝えしたかったことは

My husband and I watched TV drama Lessons in Chemistry.
2: Unsatisfied＝スッキリしない という意味合いでも使うのかぁ という気づきを得た。という話でした。
I learned the word "unsatisfied" is used when you feel something unclear, which is new to me.

紆余曲折 ってこういうふうにいうんだぁ。確かに英語も日本語も似たような表現だなぁ。と思った言葉ですね。
普段あまり使わないけど、へぇこういうふうにいうんだぁと学んだ表現ですね。
この英語日記やっていて、しかも配信しているとやっぱりちゃんと調べますからね。とりあえず通じればいいやぁで終わらないようになるのがいいですよね。
