English essay⑤

Owing to the abundance of commercial products, we have been capable of leading sustainable and convenient lifestyles. With the touch of a screen, we can dive into the world where we are able to state our beliefs or opinions, keep abreast of what is happening in our society and imbibe diverse array of perspectives and cultural diversities. Nevertheless, we are sometimes engulfed in a great sense of void. Why is this the case?

The prevalence of social media over the last decade has enabled us to communicate with various people without any geographical and ethnic boundaries. It is no exaggeration to say that this change exerts beneficial impacts on our life, consequently broadening our horizons toward international matters. The flip side is, however, that human beings, including myself, tend to compare with other people in pursuit of the number of "followers" and "likes". Such a tendency always distorts our perceptions toward whether or not we are satisfied with our life and even what we really are.

One of the most effective strategies to disabuse us of these negative ideas mentioned above is to cherish our individual strong points. No matter how trivial our advantages are, it is important to recognise what we can do. Today's picture in which it has been far easier to interact with numerous people than the past counterintuitively undermines our identities and mental conditions. Therefore, not until after our realisation of how indispensable each of us is in the world can we gain better understanding of who we really are.
