Abstract
The similar metaphor phrase “It’s on the tip of my tongue”, which is used when we are sure we know a word, but can’t remember it at the moment, is in about three-quarters of languages.
It’s a real neurological phenomenon, and researchers often simply call it a “tip-of-the-tongue state,” or TOT state for short. In this case of TOT state, your brain get stuck partway that you take abstract ideas and translate them into the words you need.
TOT states often happen when people are tired, and are more likely when trying to remember proper names.
How often do you experience TOT states?
I have experienced TOT states about once a few days. Also, I feel that the frequency is increasing year by year.
I actually often feel TOT states when I am exhausted, like after working night shift and so on.
Thus I thought I must take a break, if I felt my TOT states increased more than usual. Because it is the signature of my brain tired.
