Abstract
A British supermarket Morrisons has decided to abolish milk’s ‘use-by’ dates by the end of January 2022 to reduce food waste. Instead of the use-by date, the supermarket will put a ‘best before’ date, which lets customers know about quality, on its packaging and ask consumers to sniff to check for freshness.
A Cornell University food scientist said use-by date is sometimes decided by experience-based guesses without science behind.
Milk is Britain’s third most wasted food and drink product after potatoes and bread, and it is hoped to stop millions of liters of good milk from going down people’s kitchen sinks.

What are your thoughts on Morrisons removing "use-by" dates on most of its milk?
I don’t mind eating foods that are little past its use-by or best before date, if the foods don’t get easily rotted. If such foods are sold at a discount in supermarkets, I would buy them.
However, I think it's difficult to stop wasting food by replacing use by date with best before date.
Although in Japan most products are indicated by both the use-by and best before date, I feel some people hesitate to eat the food when the best before date is over. On the contrary, most Japanese shops hesitate to sell food which is over the best before date.
That’s why, I think it won't reduce wasting food.
