Abstract
The United Arab Emirates(UAE) has announced that its official workweek will move to Monday through Friday from a Sunday through Thursday week.
The decision will take effect in January 2022. The change aims to increase their business and tourist appeal after the crisis of the pandemic and as it faces more regional competition, particularly from Saudi Arabia.
The government employees will work a half-day on Friday, the traditional Muslim holy day, and Islamic Friday noon sermons and prayers will begin at 1:15 p.m. insted, after employees leave work. According to the change, all private schools will move to the same working week on the first day of next year’s term. Also, the UAE is the first nation in the world to introduce a national working week shorter than the global five-day week.

Do you expect many countries to move to a shorter working week within the next few decades?

If working week become shorter than five-day week, I would be happy and I also think it would be connects to prevent suicide due to overworking. Although, I think it is difficult to realize that in most western countries, if they will keep conventional capitalism.
Even if working time becomes short, it would be possible to achieve almost the same achievement if we thought well about how to work. Although, I think it doesn’t change that working long hours is advantageous in business.
So, it would be difficult to have shorter working hours during the situation where people ask and prioritize their profit.
