455 New Words Added to Merriam-Webster Dictionary

Abstract
Merriam-Webster decided to invite the 455 new vocabulary which are like “amirite” , “deplatform” , ”vaccine passport” or ”super-spreader” etc. The new words come from different places, from internet slang to the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the Global Language Monitor, about 5,400 new English words are invented every year. Although, less than a quarter are added to the dictionary.

1. What are your thoughts on Merriam-Webster's dictionary additions?

I didn’t know the meaning of “amirite?” and “deplatform” until I read the article.
From the article, “amirite?” came from “Am I right?” and it is usually used out at the end of a sentence to ask if someone agrees. Also, “deplatform” is a verb and it means someone is to take that platform away from them.
It was a new discovery and interesting for me. However it is difficult to use such English words like slang so far, because I haven’t even understood “formal English” so far.
