そんでもって、この本は西洋文化が入ってきた明治時代を生きた作者が、友田と松永という人物を通じて、東洋と西洋の文化の違いを比較しながら書いてあって、この文化比較が、この本のキーポイントかつ、読んでる人に異なる文化の対比を通じた新たな視点を見せてくれた。

この物語の始まりは、知的かつ、めっちゃ美しいファンレター(を呈した相談)が小説家の目に留まり、手紙の送り主が「生気のない夫なのに行方知れずで困ってる」ということを知る。それが小説家自身の快活な知人と、なぜかリンクする謎に興味を持ちながら、全ての真実に迫っていく物語。

謎めいた始まりから、その知人との奇妙にリンクする謎の理由、そこに至るまでの過去の経緯と、心情を打ち明け終わる時まで、物語に引き込まれちゃう。

そして、タイトル。最初に見てもピンと来るイメージもなく、内容を想像させないタイトルだったんだけど、読み終えた時にこれほど適したタイトルはないな、と思った。

「友田と松永の話」はまるでタイプの違う2人の登場人物、そして異なる文化の対比を通じて、どんな風に生きていったらいいんだろ？自分はどんな生き方がしたいんだろ？なにに惹かれるんだろ？ということへのヒントもくれた。面白かった☺️
