ワコムという会社を知らない人は多いと思います。
私も数年前にドバイにいた時に日本人の友だちに聞くまでは知りませんでした。
教えてもらうと、「ああ、そう言えば空港の免税店でwacomと書いてあった装置を見たことがある！」と気がつきました。
それは、クレジットカードで支払いをする時に「ここにサインしてください」と言われて特別なペンでサインをする時にwacomと書いてありました。

ワコムはペンタブレットとスタイラスペンで高品質な製品を製造・販売している会社です。
UAEやサウジアラビアにいる友人でイラストなどを描いている人がいるのできっとその人たちは知っていると思います。

先日ワコムについての新聞記事を見て、ワコムも大きな会社ではないけれどすごいマーケットシェアを持っている企業だったことを思い出しました。
プロのクリエーター向けペンタブレットの世界でのシェアは8割くらいあるそうです。（統計数字がないのでワコム社の推計です）
サムソンにもスマホのペンを供給しています。
世界シェア8割と聞くと、逆に他の2割の人たちはどこの製品を使っているのだろう？と思ってしまいます。　
もう一つ、ワコムの特徴としてファブレス経営があります。ファブレス経営というとアップルが有名ですね。　自分たちはデザインや技術開発に集中して製造は他の会社に委託しています。

・名前を知らないと、見ていても気づかないことがあります。
　（ワコムという会社の名前を知らなかったので、空港の免税店で見ていても気づきませんでした。）
・自分があまり接することがない分野・市場はたくさんあります。
・技術開発に集中するということは従業員の数が少なかったり、製造設備に多額のお金を投資するのがむずかしい中小企業の一つの選択肢かもしれません。
