1995年Slowdiveのアルバム「Pygmalion」が出た冬のことをおぼろげながら、覚えてる。
マサオくんことMAX(その当時なのか、ボクに会う前なのか、コクトーツインズのギターサポートをしてたって、言ってた)とは、あっちゃんの紹介で、
よくつるんでた。
まだ、キルバーンに住んでるころ。
マサオくんとは、あっちゃん以上にいろんなとこへ行った覚えがある。
アムステルダムへ行って、ペイルセインツを一緒に見た ^_^
その前の日、アムスのパラディソで演奏してたのがウェディングプレゼント！
自分は、そっちの方が見たかったんだけど、
マサオくんはペイルセインツ好きだったよな。

マイブラディーバレンタインやライドとかが好きだった僕たちには、
その頃のシューゲーザー(その頃からシューゲーザーって、言ってたのかな？)の
エフェクティブなギタープレイにかなり影響を受けたと思う。
マサオくんのギターもかなり、すごいよ。
後に、日本に帰ってから、津田沼でシオノケンジくんと組んだ
Weekend Phaseのライブでギター弾いてもらった。
ギターでなんでそんな音出るの？って、本当カッコよかったな。

ロンドンの話しに戻ると、スロウダイヴの「ピグマリオン」は、彼らのサードアルバム。
1995年2月6日発売だって。Wiki によると、レコーディングの途中でドラマーのサイモン・スコットが脱退し、後任にイアン・マカッチョンが就任。
アルバムリリース翌週にバンドはクリエイションを脱退しそのまま解散、
本作がラストアルバムとなった！とある。
そう、その発売前、後、ロンドンでライブをやる予定で、
Tottenham road 近くのVenueへマサオくんと一緒に行ったんだ。
そしたら、貼り紙がしてあって、コンサートはキャンセル。
その時は、解散するなんて知らないから「なんだよ、せっかく来たのに！」と息巻いてた。

どうしても誰かのライブ演奏が聞きたくて、ソーホーあたりをうろちょろして、
たぶん、ボーダーラインかアストリアでやってたバンドを見たと思う。
スロウダイヴは2018年再結成してライブやってるらしい。

この曲は元々、あっちゃんの8トラックレコーダーを使って録音。
ebowという振動電流で弦を振動させ、フィードバックやそれこそサステインでキーボードみたいな音が出るガジェットを使って、演奏した。
今回のレコーディングでは、ebowではなくキーボードストリングスを使ってます^_^
ドリームポップな仕上がりになっています！

I fairly remember the winter of 1995 that the Shoegazer Band
Slowdive released the album
called ”Pygmalion".

Masao-kun as MAX (At that time, or before I met he said that he had been supporting the guitar for ‘Cocteau Twins’)
The introduction of A-chan, we hang around. was very busy.
I still lived in Kilburn.
With Masao-kun, I remember going to many places more than A-chan.
I went to Amsterdam and saw the another great band ’Pale Saints’ together. lol
The day before ‘Pale Saints’ gig in Paradiso, Amsterdam, was ‘Wedding present’ !!!!!
I wanted to see them, but Masao-kun liked ‘Pail Saints’.

Like us who liked ‘My Bloody Valentine’ and ‘Ride’ the shoegaze band,
I think that we were deeply influenced by the effective guitar at that time
(I cannot quite remember we did called them ‘shoegazer’ ?).
Masao-kun's guitar is pretty amazing.
Later, I returned to Japan, I asked Masao-kun to play the guitar at the live of ‘Weekend Phase’,
which I formed with SHINO KENSHI in Tsudanuma.
I amazed and said Why does it sound like that with a guitar?
It was really cool.

Back to the story of London,’Slowdive’ Pygmalion is their third album.
It was released on February 6, 1995.According to wiki
Drummer Simon Scott withdrew during the recording,
and Ian McCachon took over as the successor.
The band released the creation next week and released the album the next week.
Well, before that release, they were plan to do a live show in London.
and I went to Venue near Tottenham Road with Masao-kun.
Then, there is a sticker, and the concert is canceled.
At that time, I did not know their break-up.
I really wanted to hear anyone play live performances,
so we hang around Soho-area , maybe I saw a band on the venue at ‘the Border line’ or ‘London Astoria’
Slowdive seems to be reuniting in 2018 and performing live.

Originally, this song was recorded using A-chan's 8-track recorder.
I used the ebow to vibrate the strings and use the feedback and
gadgets that produce a keyboard-like sound with sustain.
In this time of recording, I use keyboard strings instead of ebow. lol
The sound of dream pop is born again!!!!
