ユウスケとミサトは、三重県立上野高校の2年生で、二人は美男美女のカップルだ。ユウスケはサッカー部に所属し、ミサトはサッカー部のマネージャーだ。二人とも成績が良く、東京の一橋大学商学部に入学して、エリートビジネスパーソンになることを夢見ていた。

二人はまだ高校生だが、お互いを思いやる素晴らしいカップルだった。ユウスケがサッカーの試合で骨折したときは、伊賀神戸駅から上野市駅、さらには上野高校まで、ミサトが登下校に付き添った。

「ミサト・・・そこまでしてくれなくていいよ。うちは裕福だから、タクシーを頼むこともできるし」

「ううん、ユウスケ、私、あなたの役に立ちたいの」

「ミサト・・・ありがとう」

二人は成績も優秀で、上野高校で最高のカップルだともてはやされていた。

高校3年生のある日、ミサトは体調不良で倒れてしまうことがあった。ミサトと彼女の家族、ユウスケは、病院に行った。検査をしてもらったところ・・・その病名は「白血病」だった。場合によっては命を失うこともある恐ろしい病気だ。

ミサトは、病院で安静にしなければならなくなった。彼女はサッカー部のマネージャーも辞めた。

そんな折、ミサトの手術の日程が決まった。なんと、一橋大学の二次試験の日と同じ日程だった。
