Football and language:Tactics in football and pragmatics in linguistics

I am currently translating Horst Wein's book. Since I have read several times in German, I thought that I understood well. But you understand different when you translate into your mother tongue.

At least it became clear to me what the word “tactics” should mean in football. The soccer player should choose a move that suits the situation, just like the language in the case. One speaks with the right words for the situation and with the right way of speaking - usually. It is just like pragmatics in linguistics. This means that the tactical analysis of football is structurally similar to the analysis of language using the pragmatic method in linguistics. Therefore I suspect that the learning process of football and language can be parallel and that the complexity should also be in step.

For example, I wonder when to start reading novels for adults. I mean the novels by Klassik or Heinrich Böll or something like that. I guess only around 14, 15 years old. If this assumption were correct, the soccer game 11 against 11 should only be played in the big field from 14, 15 years old. this, you need to collect the experience and knowledge of mini football over many years.

Simply put, it's about how abstract information the brain can work out. That is why the complexity of football and language must be in parallel. The moment of action in soccer can be comparable to the moment of pronunciation and articulation. So it's about learning through the body. Therefore, the younger you are, the better you can learn both the football-specific technique and the specific articulations of each language when you are young.

For example, I only moved to Germany when I was 23 and really started speaking in German. That's why my articulation is totally catastrophic and unnatural. But it is still going and my life is going somehow, because I use at least the rule “grammar” and the appropriate words for the situation. It's exactly how a technically awkward player keeps up with the football game reasonably well. This means that the player does at least the steps of perception and the choice of moves and free running correctly.

In order to do these steps correctly, you have to keep the tactics very well in your head. Tactics is the vocabulary of football, there is the meaning of the situation (= context) on the field. German lessons teach students how to read the book or sentences. So how each individual reader can interpret the meaning of the book, they learn in class. The training of football is also like this:

The player learns the meaning of the situation in the game and reads the game.
