自分のできることに集中するvol.2 #5

前回、「自分にできることに集中する」というお話をしました。これに関連して、もう一つ紹介したい言葉があります。

これもとても前向きで好きな言葉です。

Jane Lynchさんが、2012年にSmith Collegeで行った卒業生に向けたスピーチの一節です。

Emmy– and Golden Globe–winning actress Jane Lynch was the speaker at Smith College’s 134th commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 20, 2012.

以下に抜粋して好きな箇所を示します。日本語訳は僕の拙い意訳なので、内容は原文でご確認ください。

“YES AND” is the vital and only rule of improvisation. Never deny your fellow actor. You should be willing and able to accept whatever your fellow improviser throws at you. Use that as your jumping off point and expand it.

【"YES AND"は即興劇の重要かつ唯​​一のルールです。 仲間の俳優のすることを絶対に否定してはいけません。相手役の俳優が演じることは何でも進んで受け入れなければなりません。それを足掛かりとして、演技の展開を発展させるのです。】

In other words, in order for our lives to go forward, in order to engage fully in life, we need to be willing and able to accept what is right in front of us. Whatever it is, the good, the bad, the thrilling, the heartbreaking, every emotion, occurrence, event, person, place or thing, you will experience them all. That’s the “YES” I’m talking about.

And the acceptance and embrace of it with all your heart and doing something with it, that’s the “AND.” You accept influence and then you exert influence. You can’t make a cloudy day a sunny day, but can embrace it and decide it’s going to be a good day after all.

”YES AND"というのは、即興劇の心得だそうですが、その姿勢はとても前向きだと思います。

特に、“You can’t make a cloudy day a sunny day, but can embrace it and decide it’s going to be a good day after all.”という一節がとても好きです。

自分では変えることのできない天気に左右されるのではなく、その日一日が良い日になるかどうかは自分次第という前向きな「潔さ」が気に入ってます。

結局、現実を受け入れない限り、前には進めないってことですね。そして、全ては自分次第です。
