#21カマキリの逆襲

庭でデカいカマキリをみつけた。
５さい児の私は畏れというものを知らない。
小首をかしげてこちらを見つめるカマキリにときめいた私は、カマキリを捕まえて虫かごに入れた。ずっとみていられる。

昼ごはんの時間になり、虫かごを外において家に入った。

ごはんを食べて戻ると無残な光景が待っていた。虫かごの中で自由を奪われたカマキリは、アリに襲撃されていた。全身がゾワワワワとなった。私がごはん食べている間にカマキリがアリのごはんになっちゃった。私のせいだ。ごめんなさいごめんなさいごめんなさいもう絶対にしません。私は半べそかきながら天に誓ったのだった。

カマキリは虫を食べるからアリより強いと思っていたけど、それはまちがいだった。
あと、『アリとキリギリス』の話のイメージでアリはなんとなくいいやつだと思っていたけど、それもちがった。世の中そんなに単純じゃないんだ。

ある朝のこと。

我が家は赤ちゃんカマキリ軍団に占拠されていた。誰かがカマキリの卵を見つけて家に持ち込んだようだ。

#21 The counterattack of the praying mantis

I found a huge praying mantis in my garden.

As a five-year-old, I don't know anything about awe.

I caught it and put it in my insect cage. I could watch it forever.

When it was time for lunch, I put the cage outside and went into the house.

When I returned after eating lunch, a cruel sight awaited me. The praying mantis, deprived of its freedom in the cage, was being attacked by ants. My whole body was horrified. While I was eating my meal, the praying mantis became the ants' meal. It was my fault. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'll never do it again. I swore that on the verge of crying.

I thought that the praying mantis was stronger than the ant because it eats insects, but I was wrong.
I also thought that ants were somehow good guys because of the image of the story "The Ant and the Grasshopper," but I was wrong about that, too. The world is not that simple.

One morning.

Our house was occupied by an army of baby praying mantis. It seems that someone found a praying mantis egg and brought it home.
