今日は英語の自然な使い方について。Instagramのリールで回ってきたassort.hairさんの素敵な動画を参考にしようと文字起こししてみた。素敵な癖毛の持ち主のお客様🙎♀️と、魅力的なセンスの持ち主であるスタイリストさん🤵♂️の会話です。

🙎♀️"I'm thinking a big chop like chin length. I've never played with my wavy hair before, so I'm not quite sure what length would be the best for me."
🙎♀️ "I do have a sharp jaw line. So I was wanting something short.
I'm thinking about something like wolf cut.
And like people do the shag with wavy hair and I kind wanna add like layers and texture in my hair. I've never had that before."
🙎♀️ "I've always had pin straight hair, so I'm kind of excited to, like, try my wavy hair for once."
🤵♂️"So, you've always had pin straight hair?"
"Yea."
"But this is your natural wave, right?"
"Completely yea. So I used to get it a straight permed."
"Straight permed, I see."
"Yea, so I got it a straight permed but because of covid and everything, I've been just growing it out."
"So this time will be the first time to play with your natural curl. Sounds exciting."
"Oh, thank you."
🤵♂️"Do you have any reference pictures?"
🙎♀️"This girl, but maybe a little bit shorter between the neck to the jaw line. Another one that I looked at was kind of like these waves and everything.
I've never had bangs before with my natural hair. so I'm not sure how they would like curl and how they would look, but I'm willing to try."
"With your waves, you can play with your bangs as well. "
"Yeah, absolutely."
"It should be lighter one."
"Yea kind of like just swept back and a little bit wispy.
It's really thick, so I wouldn't mind if you have to thin it at all."
🤵♂️"So we're gonna go like this much for the length. And then we're gonna add a lot of layer in the back as well."
🙎♀️"Awesome."
"Also, the flaming… Something like here. But still I wanna leave some length to the face flaming."
"Yea, great. Thank you so much."

Review
さぁ。部分部分は聞き取れましたが、特に太字箇所が個人的に聞き取りづらかった部分。慣れ親しんでない表現だったり、発音が拾えなかったり。
特に難しいと感じた女性の表現を一つずつ確認していく。
"I do have a sharp jaw line."
jawというのは、「顎」を意味します。
えーっ、顎ってchinじゃないの！？って思ったけど、どうやらchinは顎の先端部分を指すもので、顎全体について言いたい時はjawを使うらしいです。
例えば、I punched him in the jaw.のように使ったりするんだとか。
"So I was wanting something short."
I was wanting? 今まで、I want とか、I wanted, I have wantedとかは使ったことがあったけど、過去進行形でwantってどんな時に使うの。
ちなみに、そのリールに載っていた日本語訳は「短い感じにしようかと」。
ふーん、こんな感じでも使うのね。
"I kind wanna add like layers and texture in my hair."
和訳は、「レイヤーを足して動きを出したい」。
なるほど、textureが動きとかそういうニュアンスなのね。
質感、肌触り、触感。
"I'm kind of excited to try my wavy hair for once."
Once ねぇ…使えないんだよね私。for onceは、
①今回だけは
e.g.) It was sunny today for once. 珍しくいい天気だった。
②たまには、一度くらい
e.g.) Be quiet for once. たまには静かにして。
といった意味がある。今回は２番だね。「一回くらいやって見たかったんだよね」っていう。
あと、①の使い方の応用でfor once and for allっていうのがあるらしい。
e.g.) Let's draw a conclusion once (and) for all. 最終的な(決定的な)結論を出そう。
"I've been just growing it out."
ふぅむ。髪を伸ばすって、grow it outなんだ！growだけじゃだめなのね。
ついでに、grow it out of で、「サイズアウトする、卒業する」って意味があるらしい。例えば、
He‘s grown out of all his baby clothes. 子供服は着れなくなった。
She grew out of that phase now. もうそういうことはしなくなった。
のように使う。ネイティブだ！
"But I'm willing to try."
「でも、やってみようと思う。」
これもちょっと上級。聞いたことはあっても、使わないもん。I wanna tryって言っちゃうもん。
これを知っておけば、使える表現の幅が広がるね。
"kind of like just swept back and a little bit wispy."
「うん。後ろに流せたり、軽い感じだよね。」
最後にしてこれが一番難しい。そもそも単語を知らないし、日本語訳もラフすぎないか？
・sweep: 掃く、掃除する
・swept-back: (髪型が)オールバックの、後ろにのばした
・wispy: ほのかな、曖昧な、軽い e.g.) wispy memory かすかな記憶
まぁネイティブ単語ですね。こうした言葉をひとつひとつ覚えていかなくちゃいけないのも、ネイティブに近づく地道で大切な一歩。
なかなか近道はないですね。。
Conclusion
さて。今回レビューしたこのヘアサロンだけれど、世界に数店舗しかない、日本発祥のものなんだよね。アップされている動画全て素敵で、美容師さんの対応、技術が確かなもので、いつか行って見たいなぁ。
今回の動画も、お客様のリクエスト通りのヘアスタイルで、しかも最強に似合わせがうまいよね。。
アムステルダムにあるから、機会があれば行ってみようかしら、なんて。
