脱水とパフォーマンス発揮 認知

認知機能に対する脱水の影響

スポーツにおけるパフォーマンス発揮には、持久力や筋力などのほかに、様々な状況に応じてプレーの選択を行う能力、つまり認知機能も関係します。
認知機能と脱水に関する報告では、脱水レベルと認知機能との間に関係性が認められなかったという報告と、2%以上の脱水によって認知機能が影響を受ける可能性を指摘している報告があります。脱水が認知機能へ与える影響に関して一致した見解が得られていない背景には、認知テストの方法や脱水状態になるまでの手法、対象者の年齢、対象者の体力レベルやトレーニング状況など、認知機能に影響を与える脱水以外の要因が、それぞれの実験で異なっていることが挙げられます。 

脱水によって認知機能が影響を受けるメカニズムとして、脱水による脳血流への影響や脳内における神経伝達物質への影響などが考えられている一方で、スポーツ活動中の認知機能を実験で評価すること自体が難しいのではないかという指摘もあります。
また、生理学的な側面のみならず、脱水による心理的側面への影響も認知機能に影響を与える要因として考えられています。具体的に言うと、脱水によって運動パフォーマンスの発揮が低下するというイメージそのものが、認知機能に対しても影響を及ぼしているのではないかということです。
さらに、脱水は口腔内の乾燥や精神的な疲労感を増大させる可能性が指摘されていることから、このようなことも認知機能に影響を与える要因として考えられます。

前回の筋力発揮やスプリントパフォーマンス同様、認知機能に関しても具体的な脱水レベルの数値が示されている訳ではありません。
しかし、過度な脱水による認知機能低下の可能性が指摘されている以上、スポーツ活動時における脱水レベルの増加を抑制するための対策、すなわち”水分補給”、”身体冷却”、”暑熱順化などの暑さ対策”を積極的に行うことで、運動パフォーマンスのみならず、認知機能が低下するリスクを軽減させることができるでしょう。
