ヤクザさんたち

今までに私が遭遇した人の中で、少なくとも一人はヤクザでした。

大阪府下の町に住んでいた頃、個人経営の紳士服店で店主と話していました。客は私一人でした。中年男性がやってきて、ほとんど会話もなく、店主が差し出したものを受け取って、男は去っていきました。店主に聞くのをためらう雰囲気だったので聞きませんでしたが、彼はいわゆる「みかじめ料」を払っていたのだと思います。

これは４０年ほど前のことですが、客がいる時に堂々と「みかじめ料」を店に取りに来るヤクザがいたのです。彼は、私が警察関係者だったりする可能性を考慮しなかったのでしょう（私は全くそういう外見ではありませんし）。

その後、暴力団に対する法律が整備されたので、そのような風習はすたれたと思っていましたが、下の記事のように、今でも「みかじめ料」を払わされる風習は存続しているのでした。

もう一人、自分は暴力団員とつながりがある、と言った男性がいましたが、それは確かかどうかわかりません。レンタルビデオショップに勤務していた頃、貸したビデオテープがビデオデッキにからみついたので来い、と言われて彼の家に行った時のことでした。

どうやら、いかがわしいビデオを作成する人のようでしたが、お詫びして、その後は店のお得意先になってもらえました。これも４０年ほど前のことです。

今ではレンタルビデオショップという業種自体がかなりすたれてしまいました。４０年前と違い、今では海外のサイトから、インターネットで色々な種類の動画が見えるので、いかがわしいビデオをこっそり作る商売も消えつつあるのでしょうか。

しかし、今の時代でも需要はそれなりにあるようです。

ところで、前に投稿した記事で、「英会話も使う場が無ければ、習う時間がもったいない」と書きました。何十年も前のことですが、NHKのニュースで、暴力団関係者が、空港か税関で、流ちょうな英語を話しているのを見たことがあります。意外だったせいか、今でも覚えています。

Yakuza.

Of all the people I have encountered, at least one was a yakuza.

When I was living in a town in Osaka Prefecture, I was talking to the owner of a privately owned men's clothing store. I was the only customer. A middle-aged man came in, hardly spoke to the owner, accepted what the owner offered him, and the man left. I did not ask the owner because the atmosphere was hesitant to ask him, but I think he was paying what is called a "protection racket".

This was about 40 years ago, but there was a yakuza who came to the store to pick up the "protection racket" when there were customers. He wouldn't have considered the possibility that I might be a police officer or something (I don't look like that at all).

After that, the law against gangsters was put in place, so I thought that such a custom was gone, but as shown in this article , the custom of being forced to pay a "protection racket" still exists.

There was another man who said he had a connection with the gangsters, but I don't know if that is the case. When I was working at a video rental shop, I went to his house when I was told to come because the videotape he borrowed got entangled in the VCR.

Apparently, he seemed to be the one who made the suspicious video, but I apologize and after that he became a customer of the store. This was also about 40 years ago.

Nowadays, the rental video shop industry itself has become quite obsolete. Unlike 40 years ago, now that you can see various types of videos on the Internet from overseas sites, is the business of secretly making suspicious videos disappearing?

However, as you can see in this article, there seems to be some demand in this era.

By the way, in the article I posted earlier, I wrote, "If you don't have a place to use English conversation, it's a waste of time to learn." Decades ago, I've seen NHK news about gangsters speaking fluent English at airports or customs. I still remember it, probably because it was unexpected.
