鉛筆の持ち方は、３歳で決まってしまうのかもしれない

前に書いたように、自分が書く文字は汚くなってしまった。でも、鉛筆の持ち方は、大丈夫だろう。
時々、鉛筆やボールペンなどの持ち方が変な、若い人を見かけることがあります。

かつて、大村はまという人が、今から５０年前に書いた本『教えるということ』の中で、こう言っています。

子どもたちを中学に受け取ってみた時、鉛筆のちゃんと持てる子は、三分の一しかいません。（中略）中学では直せません。直せたとしても、たいへんな苦しみをその子どもに味わせなければなりません。相当大きくなった子どもに鉛筆の持ち方なんか注意すると、その子どもは恥をかいた気がします。

５０年前でも、このありさまなのでした。
この記事によると、小学校１年生の時でさえ、鉛筆の持ち方を矯正するのは難しいそうです。

私は授業中も頻繁に、「持ち方はどうかな？」「おっ、○○君、正しく持ててるね」「おー、今、正しく持てている子が20人います」などと声かけしていました。ですから、そういうときは、どの子も正しい持ち方で書きます。
でも、私が何も言わないときや書くこと自体に没頭しているときは、元の持ち方に戻ってしまう子が多かったです。家で書くときもそうだったと思います。
言われなくても自分で正しく持てるようになった子、書くこと自体に没頭しているときも正しく持てるようになった子、つまり完全に直った子は極めて少なかったです。
でも、どの子も正しい持ち方で書こうと思えば書けるようにはなりました。
私はこれでいいと思います。
私は、これ以上のことはできないなと思いました。
たとえ1年生でも、既に身についてしまった持ち方を直すのはとても難しいことなのです。これ以上のことは、本人次第です。本人が本当にその気にならないと、できない部分というものがあるのです。

また、この記事では、「鉛筆の正しい持ち方を教えるタイミングは、３歳くらいが一般的です。このくらいの年齢なら、鉛筆を持つ力もついています。」と書かれています。

もし、多くの子どもが実際、３歳くらいで鉛筆を持ち始めるなら、その時の持ち方が、あのことわざ「三つ子の魂百まで」の通り、続いていくのかもしれません。

Once, a woman named Hama Omura wrote the following in her book "Teaching" written 50 years ago.

When children enter junior high school, only one-third of them can hold a pencil properly. (Omitted)
You can't fix it in junior high school. Even if you can fix it, you have to make the child suffer a lot.If you teach a grown-up child how to hold a pencil, he or she will feel embarrassed.

Fifty years ago, this is the situation.

According to this article, even in the first grade of elementary school, it is difficult to correct the way you hold a pencil.

I tell my students, often during class,
"How do you hold it?"
"Oh, you're holding it right."
"Oh, right now, there are 20 children who are holding it correctly."
And so on.
Therefore, in such a case, every child writes in the correct way. But when I didn't say anything or when I was immersed in the writing itself, many of the children would return to their original way of holding. I think it was the same when I wrote at home.
Few children learned to hold a pencil correctly without being told to do so, or even when they were immersed in writing. In other words, very few children were completely recovered.
However, any child can now write if they want to write in the correct way. I think this is fine. I thought I couldn't do more.
Even in the first grade, it is very difficult to change the way you have already learned. Anything beyond that is up to the student. There are some things that you can't do unless you really feel like it.

The article also states, "The best time to teach children how to hold a pencil correctly is around the age of 3. At this age, they have acquired the ability to hold a pencil."

If many children actually start to pick up a pencil at about age 3, the way they hold it at that time may continue, as the saying goes, "A 3-year-old's soul lasts until 100."
