Dear Sirs, Madams

I am writing to apply for the International Business Administration programme at Tallinn University of Technology. This programme offers a world-class comprehensive curriculum and training that will equip me with the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to help me achieve my future professional goal, i.e., to help Japan’s economy and its people through asset management.

With the continuing decline of Japanese economy due to aging and several economic crises (Cabinet office, 2018), I want to help my country by working in asset management firms and to render the services across all demographics and in all strata of society in Japan, especially for young people. Thus, I need to acquire specialized knowledge, and experience internship through the international business administration programme, especially investment and risk management specialization in finance. Also, I want to learn business and finance at start-up firms to hone my skills for my future endeavour. Furthermore, Taltech is in Estonia, which is famous for its start-up firms and several entrepreneur gather there. In addition, Taltech’s Mektory allows students to acquire practical knowledge and business ideas from experts in the field. These factors made studying at Taltech a suitable and conducive place for me to study international business administration.

Currently, I’m in my final year in the Japanese secondary education, and I will graduate this March. Throughout my high school years, I had chosen the science track, and studied chemistry and physics in advance level, aside from mathematics, Japanese history, and English. For my electives this school year, I took basic politics and economics classes.

In addition, as part of my school’s curriculum, I had worked on research projects and had opportunities to present and discuss them both in Japanese and English. The most recent one aimed to improve the local financial situation by tourism. In this project, I surveyed local sightseeing spots, dishes, traditional culture and industry to construct a tour plan for foreign tourists. I succeeded in making a tour plan, however, I did not have the chance to implement it.

My research allowed me to experience and gain knowledge connected to the business through the lectures I attended, books that I had read, and research investigations and analysis that I did. To name a few, I learned the procedure to construct business plans in the lectures given by Japanese entrepreneurs, broaden my business knowledge by doing the research and discussing it with my school community and guests from different universities, and continuing to understand how the local and global economic situations are mutually connected or related with each other by reading economics newspaper.

As my interest in business and economics continues to deepen, it becomes my daily routine to check the foreign exchange rate and read Japanese economics newspapers to grasp the current domestic and global economic situation and trends. I found these intricately connected to asset management.

Aside from my interest in business and economics, I am also interested in interacting with people from different cultures across all generations because it helps me to keep an open mind and it broadens my perspectives in life. My school is located in a mountainous area where most of the population are elderly, and all the students at my school live in the dormitory; so, I often interact with people from a different generation. On my free time, I often do a homestay with the elderly to help them with their work. Through these experiences, I learned many interesting facts such as local history, food and tradition from the elderly that I cannot find on the internet. It also inspired me to think of a way to develop society through business while preserving and protecting traditional culture.

Also, when I was a third-year junior high school student, I visited London and Oxford for a study tour. We took lectures at Oxford University and University College London, and had discussions with the students. I learned a lot of things such as cultural difference, British education and diversity through the discussions with the students and daily conversation with my host family. The most noticeable thing was the differences between the subjective and objective perspectives of people. Even when we discussed ordinary things, they gave me interesting ideas from completely different perspectives.

My experiences coupled with my keen interest to realize my dreams for myself and my country, made me decide to pursue the international business administration programme at Tallinn University of Technology and to become an asset management expert. I strongly hope to be part of an institution that highly provides its students with a world-class curriculum, training, and experiences that they can actively use in the future.

Sincerely,
