<テーマ>
<Why you should listen to this topic >
Imagine a serious emergency, like a kid in danger in the water or someone falling down all of a sudden. Many people would panic and freeze.
In this episode, we'll look at why this happens and share ways to get through it.
<My story>
But first, let me tell you about a time I couldn't help in an emergency.
An elderly lady on the train couldn't take a seat because of the shaking of the train, and despite noticing, nobody including me did anything.
She got off a few stations later, and I regretted not acting.
<Using Social Psychology to Explain>
This event helps us understand a certain experiment in social psychology.
In this experiment, it was found that there are 5 steps people take before helping in an emergency.
Let's connect these steps to our story today.
<5 Steps of Helping in Emergencies>
Step1. Notice the Problem:
First, did you see what's going on?
If you didn't, it's hard to help right. In the story, I saw the grandma's struggle with seating.
Step2. Know It's emergency:
Next, did you realize it's an emergency?
In the story, did I know grandma needed urgent help?
Yes I did, so I got this part right.
Step3. Feel Responsible to Help:
Third, did you feel it's your job to do something?
Did I think, "I need to help"? In the story, To be honest, I thought I didn't need to help because of the distance from her and others around.
I dropped out at this step.
Step4. Understand How to Help:
Fourth, do you know what to do to help? If you're unsure, it's tough to act. In the story, I didn't know what specific actions to take.
Step 5. Take Action:
Lastly, did you do something to help?
Taking action can be difficult due to worries about what others think.
In the story, I hesitated because of concerns about the lady's reaction and others' opinions.
These are the 5 steps people go through in emergencies before helping.
<Summary>
In summary, helping in emergencies isn't simple, and there are mental challenges.
It's important to understand these steps just in case you need to act in the future.
I hope this story helps everyone be a bit better in handling emergencies.
<まとめ>
