交流会(志和の輪を広げよう!しわわわわー)

QIONG HUANG (Becky) です。里山BOOST-UPプロジェクト、交流会を行いました。

The Boost-up program provided a good opportunity for us to communicate with local residents from Shiwa and technical intern trainees from Philippines on 22nd of October through an interesting interactive cooking event.
in the morning, we were separated into 2 teams. one team to go shopping and one team to prepare the event room.

Pre-event discussion

After the lunch break, we had the discussion about the flow of the event today. We have decided the two cooking teams and the host through line before so today we just discussed about from 3pm when the guests come, what would we do and so on. At around 2pm, we started preparing the ingredients for the Okonomiyaki such as cabbages, the wheat powder and the rice for sushi. Meanwhile, we also designed a google form for feedback of the event today.

At 3 pm, most of the guests arrived and we did the check for temperature and hand sanitation for covid safety. Then we started the opening speech, introducing the program today and the flow.

Opening speech

After the welcome speech, everyone moved to the kitchen. Everyone seemed to be interested in how to cook today. First, we showed them how to make the toppings for Oshisushi and invited the guest to prepare together. Not only the trainees but also the local people plus the children were interested and actively participated.

After prepared the ingredients , they started to make the sushi. Everyone could choose what type of toppings they like. After making the Oshisushi, the  team started to cook Okonomiyaki. Due to the limited cooking devices, they have to take turns and cook a few rounds. But generally, they enjoyed the process and everyone would encourage others and gave applaud if they had done the cooking well.

Cooking Okonomiyaki

After most people experienced how to cook Okonomiyaki, we started to sit together and ate what we cooked. Everyone seemed enjoying the food cooked by ourselves and also had a nice chat with the people in the same table.

Enjoying the food

Group photo!

After the food, we got a few announcements about sport and culture exhibition. We also explained about the feedback form. Then we had the group photo taken before the guests leave. It's a happy and fun event. I believe everyone had a joyful half day and an unforgettable memory of what they cooked. Thanks to JICA to organise this program and the staff's help.
