世界における日本の役割とは？/ What is the role of Japanese culture in the world?

世界は今、日本からの積極的な知恵・提言と国際的問題への関与を求めています。その中で、当法人は「茶が内包する以下2つの力」で応えたいと考えています。

As the world faces the major challenges of the 21st century such as coronavirus and climate change, harmony and collaboration have become more important than ever in facing international issues. With this in mind, our organization intends to promote tea diplomacy and Japanese harmony for the following two reasons:

①世界中の要人をも惹きつける精神性 / Tea contains a spirituality that attracts people from all over the world
②国際課題を解決する力 / Tea brings the harmony necessary to solve international issues

当米国法人は昨年末より国連NGOアライアンスメンバーになり、ただいま国連に新しく「茶（を通して世界の愛と平和に貢献する）プログラム」を構築する準備をすすめております。この経緯も、上記①②を当法人創業代表が国連NGOアライアンス理事にふとした立ち話で伝えたきっかけでした。

At the end of last year, our U.S. company became a member of the United Nations NGO Alliance and is now preparing to establish a "Tea Education Program" with the goal of contributing to world love and peace through tea with the United Nations. This is why the founder of our non-profit mentioned the two values mentioned above to the board members of the United Nations NGO Alliance.

茶が内包する力とは？ / What is the power of tea?

では、茶が内包する「国際課題を解決する力」とは何でしょうか？
当法人はこれまでの活動を通して以下であると考えています。

How does something seemingly as simple as tea have the power to solve international problems? We believe that tea has the power to promote the following:

• 茶の間における平等 / Equality
• 自然への敬意と調和、共生する精神 Respect and harmony with nature and the spirit of coexistence
• 茶＝薬として日本にやってきた（＝健康）/ Tea as a source of health
• 食＝茶懐石が和食の起源であった（＝自然に対する感謝と共生）/ Kaiseki cuisine was the origin of Japanese food and reflects appreciation and symbiosis with nature
• 水＝日本文化を支えるエネルギーの泉源 / Water as a source of energy significant to Japanese culture

これらが、「個人」「社会」「地球」という3つの次元と掛け合わされることで、人類の幸福感の総和、そして、世界平和は前進するのではないか？これが、私たちが「茶の湯外交」を通して描くビジョンであり、追求したい「世界における日本の役割」の姿です。

When all of these factors cross with the three dimensions of the individual, society, and earth, can human happiness and world peace improve? This is the vision that we are trying to portray through tea diplomacy.

茶の湯外交の現場では「東洋と西洋のバランス」という言葉をよく耳にします。つまり、東洋の知恵をもっと今の現実に投入することで世界のバランスも取れ、それぞれの違いが対立ではなくより良い地球へと導く、という声です。その通りであると同時に、「東洋と西洋」という概念自体が今の社会には馴染まないとも感じます。

In the field of tea diplomacy, we often hear the phrase "the balance between East and West." In other words, by applying Eastern wisdom to today's reality, we can use the differences between East and West to create a better world rather than confrontation. At the same, the concept of "East and West" no longer fits in today's interconnected world.

茶を世界人のたしなみへ（＝数寄者の輪を世界につくる）/ We have a vision of making tea an international way of life and creating a global circle of supporters.

日本が培ってきた文化の中には、今世界が直面する課題解決を前進させる知恵が詰まっているはずです。一緒にその深い精神世界を探り、世界に伝えていきませんか？

Japanese culture, which has been cultivated for thousands of years, undoubtedly contains some wisdom that can help solve the problems the world faces today. Let's explore that deep spiritual wisdom together and share it with the world.
