Second, some seabirds are choked by the garbage they mistakenly eat.

•  mistakingly ではなく mistakenly

•  drink は飲み物に使う。eat か swallow に直す。

• garbage はここでは特に浜辺にあるごみを指しているので、そもそも the が必要。

• choking は「息が詰まるような」という意味の形容詞。それに、choke そのものに die のニュアンスが含まれている。

• choke や drown を自動詞で使うか他動詞で使うかは米英差があるので、学習者はあまり気にしなくてもいい。

• こういうあってもなくてもいいような英文を見ると、「最後に字数が足りなくなって稼いだのか？」と勘ぐりたくなる。せめて、it を such tragedies や misfortunes などに直す。
