　あなたが今までに下した大きな決断について，60～70語の英文で説明せよ。 ただし，
(1) その時点でどのような選択肢があったか
(2) そこで実際にどのような選択をしたか
(3) そこで違う選択をしていたら，その後の人生がどのように変わっていたと思われるか
という三つの内容を盛り込むこと。 適宜創作をほどこしてかまわない。

The biggest decision that I have ever made is to go to farther high school which I now go to. I could choose nearer school that my friend goes to, but the high school students’ level is worse than those of my school, so if I would went to nearer school, I would study less than now. Therefore, I am satisfied with the decision at that time.

答案が長いので、１文ずつ添削します。

• 何が書いてあるのかわからない。「私がいま通っているより遠くの高校」はどの高校と比べている？「私がいま通っている高校よりもより遠くの高校」の間違い？

答案）
I could choose nearer school that my friend goes to, but the high school students’ level is worse than those of my school, so if I would went to nearer school, I would study less than now.

添削）

• 過去に対する仮定は「助動詞＋have＋過去分詞」を使う。could have chosen

• 機械的に schcool は無冠詞でもOKと思ったかもしれないが、他の学校との比較で不定冠詞の a が必要。これは breakfast / lunch / dinner などがふだんは無冠詞だが、形容詞が付くと他との比較で不定冠詞がつくのに似ている。

• my friend って誰？いきなり書かれても、読み手は誰のことかわからない。my (best) friend ということ？それか a friend of mine, one of my friends などに直す。

• but 以降の文は不自然。人を主語にして書くと自然な英文になるって英作文の授業で習わなかった？ the students there do worse than those at my school に直す。worse は better の対義語で、better は well の比較級。do well は「（学校の）成績がいい」という意味。

• 等位接続詞 but で文を結んだあと、さらに等位接続詞 so で文を結んでおり、１文が果てしなく長い。読んでいて息切れをする。読み手のことを考える？

• if I would went to nearer school ではなく if I had gone to the nearer school　が正しい。仮定法の基礎がわかっておらず、これでは東大合格がおぼつかない。

• so 以降は何が書いてあるのかよくわからない。周りの友達からの刺激がなくなり勉強しなくなる、ということ？

添削）

• 問題文で聞かれていないことであり、なぜここに字数を割こうと考えたのか疑問に思う。他にもっと説明すべき箇所はなかったか？

• the decision at that time は the then decision にまとめられる。then には形容詞の用法もある。
