1. 添削前の英文　

Q. Do you think smartphones are necessary for small children?
I do not think smartphones are necessary for small children. I have two reasons. First, their sightseeing is bad when they continue use smartphone. If they had poor sightseeing, they couldn’t see things far away. Second, smartphones are bad for children. For two reasons, I don’t think smartphones are necessary for small children.（５３）

3. 添削　

First, their sightseeingis bad when they continueusesmartphone.
→First, their eyesightsbecome bad when they continue using smartphones for a long time.
・「視力」は sightseeing ではなくsightsやeyesightsを用いる（sightseeingは「観光」という意味）。このように、sightには「視力」、「観光」などさまざまな意味があるので、英作文では意味をはっきりさせるためにeyesightsを使うほうが望ましい。
・be動詞が「～になる」という意味で用いることができるのは、willやwant toなど限られた表現の後ろに来るときだけ。
・動詞のcontinueの後ろにさらに動詞のuseを続けるのはおかしい。continue doing（動名詞）かcontinue to do（to不定詞）の形に変える。
・smartphoneは数えられる名詞。数えられる名詞の単数形を、冠詞や所有格などの限定詞なしに用いてはいけない。ここでは一般論を話しているので、複数形にする。

If they had poor sightseeing, they could not see things far away.
→ 削除
・「視力が悪くなる」は実際に起こり得ることなので、そもそも仮定法を使う必要はない。
・「遠くが見えなくなる」は「視力が悪くなる」を言い換えただけで、説明になっていない。

Second, smartphones are bad for children.
→Second, children often spend too much time using smartphone. As a result, they will have less time to study.
・2つ目の理由に対する説明が書いていないし、1つ目の理由が「スマホを使いすぎると、視力が悪くなる」なのに、2つ目の理由は単に「スマホは子どもにとって悪い」とだけで済ませており、両者のバランスが悪い。
・spend 時間 (in) doing「（時間）を〜するのに費やす」「〜しながら（時間）を過ごす」

For two reasons, I do not think smartphones are necessary for small children.
→ For the two reasons, I do not believesmall children need smartphones.
・two reasonsは前に書いてあるから特定の理由を指す。theが必要。
・結論を繰り返すのであれば、表現を変えてから書く。

4. 添削後の英文　

Q. Do you think smartphones are necessary for small children?
I do not think smartphones are necessary for small children. I have two reasons. First, their eyesights become bad when they continue using smartphones for a long time.  Second, children often spend too much time using smartphone. As a result, they will have less time to study. For the two reasons, I do not believe small children need smartphones.（５８）
