Our First Project

My name is Eiki Homma, the CEO of Open Up LLC.

For our first project, we have started “WhaFood.”

“WhaFood” is an abbreviation for “What is in the food?”.

Simple Explanation

This service shows the nutritional facts of the dishes served in a restaurant. (Ex. The information labeled on products in the convenience store)

Concretely this web service can currently do four services.

1. Show the nutritional facts (calories, protein, fat, carbohydrate, sodium) and allergy information for the restaurant’s dishes.

2. Translate the menu (at the beginning only English and Japanese)

3. Display the restaurant’s information

4. Show where the restaurant is located on the map.

The reason why we created this service

This will be about myself (Eiki Homma).

When I was in 7th grade, I got diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Currently, there is no cure for this disease. To stay healthy, I need to control my blood sugar level to be stable. And the thing that affects the blood sugar level the most is the carbohydrate in the food. So, when I eat, I always need to think about the amount of carbohydrate that might be in the food.

However, there is a reason why I was not able to enjoy the food when I go to eat at a restaurant. This is because the restaurant does not provide nutrition facts for each dish. So, I always fear being low blood sugar level or high blood sugar level every time I finish eating.

Then I researched if other people have the same worries.

As a result, in Japan, one in every three people needs to know the nutritional facts for their health.

People who care about calories, salt content, sugar content ⇒ Number of people diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes: 3.16 million people (pre-diabetes 20million people)

People who care about protein⇒ Number of people diagnosed with Chronic kidney disease: 13.3million people

People who care about sodium⇒ Number of people with High blood pressure: 10.1million people

People who care about fat⇒ Number of people diagnosed with hyperlipidemia: 2.06million people

People who care about carbohydrate⇒ Number of people diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes: 0.14million people

People with allergy about 2million people.

In total, approximately 45million people.

This was when I realized that many people would need this service.

Currently, we are trying to sell the service to restaurants.
