明治大学かわさきワインプロジェクト　レポート（6/10黒川農場実習編）

みなさん、初めまして。明治大学かわさきワインプロジェクト広報担当、生命科学科2年の小林瑞季です。戸田さんからレポートのあった講義編に続き,
私からは実習編をお送りします。

今回は明治大学黒川農場のビニールハウスで、
ワイン用ぶどう「マスカット・ベーリーＡ」の苗木の誘引と、ぶどうの実の除去を行いました。
In the last part of today’s program, we did training for the grape seedling and removal of grape.

まずは誘引について！
「誘引」というのは、植物が目的の形状に成長できるよう、茎などを支柱に紐で結びつける作業です。他に、暴風によって茎が折れてることを防ぐ役割もあります。
First, let’s talk about training.
Training is a process in which orienting the plant and direct its growth.
In this process, we use a string and a pole.
Training process also avoids the stem to be broken by heavy rain and a storm.

約1ヶ月前に誘引を行った際と今回で、苗木を比較してみました。
背丈が高くなっていることが分かります。
成長が早いですね！
I compared the seedling appearance in a month ago and now.
You can tell that it gets taller.
What a speedy it grows!

また細かいことですが、誘引の際、ただ紐を支柱に結ぶだけではだめです。
支柱に対して、紐を「8の字」にして結びます。
8の字に結ぶことで、茎が成長して太くなっても、茎を傷つけないようにするそうです。
１つの作業でも、こんなに沢山の意味と役割があることを知ると、作業ひとつひとつ非常に面白いです。
Now, let me tell you a little detail about training process.
In this process, you have to tie a string in a way that looks like a figure 8.
By doing so, stem won’t hurt when it grows and becomes thick.
It is really interesting that even one process has a lot of meanings and roles.

ところでみなさん、ぶどうの花を見たことはありますか？
実は、この花を見ることができるのは、とってもラッキーなことです。開花は1週間程度の短い期間だからです。
By the way, have you ever seen a wine grape flower before?
Actually, it is very rare.

とても繊細で美しいぶどうの花

一目を惹く、華やかなものではありませんが、どこか繊細で、静かな美しさが感じられます。
日本では、お花見というと桜のイメージが強いですが、ワインぶどうのお花見があったら素敵だなと思います。
ワインにチーズにお花……。考えるだけでワクワクします（笑）
The flower is not gorgeous and standing out but have delicate beauty.
In Japan, we have an event called “Hanami”, a flower viewing party. This is usually for cherry blossom but I think it’s good for wine grape flower.

さて、今回黒川農場で栽培しているぶどうの苗木を見てみると、中には、すでに受粉して結実しているものがありました。
山田さんによると、
まだ苗木が十分に成長していない時に、結実した実を残してしまうと、実に養分が吸い取られ、苗木の成長が損なわれるのだそうです。
そのため、今回は残念ですが、その実を取り除くことになりました。
Well, when we take a look at the seedling in Kurokawa farm, some of the flowers have already pollinated and fruited.
Mr.Yamada said that if you keep the fruit in an early process of seedling growth, the nutrition will be absorbed into a fruit and won’t be used for the growth of seedling.
Therefore, we removed it.

ワインぶどうの赤ちゃん！（実です）

余談ですが、現在私のネイルはワイン色です！（笑）
ワイン実習に取り組んでいくにつれ、ぶどうに愛着がわき、ぶどう特有の赤紫色が大好きになりました。
Incidentally, my nail color is wine red.
As I engaged in this project, I become attached to grape and its color.

実習が始まって、3ヶ月が経とうとしていますが、毎回、ワインの世界の奥深さには驚かされます。それと同時に、新しいことにチャレンジする楽しさを、身を持って実感しています。

数ヶ月前までは、ワインに関する知識など全く無かった私が、今では自らの爪をぶどう色にしてしまうほどこの世界にハマりました。
It has been three month since this project started, but every time I go, I’m impressed with the depth of the world of wine.
At the same time, I realized the joy of challenging new things.
Few months ago, I have no knowledge of wine but now, I’m obsessed with it and even do my nail in wine color.

また、この実習は、普段なかなかお会いできない、様々な業界の方々とお話することができる、素晴らしい機会でもあります。
私は、プロジェクトに携わって頂いている先生方が、川崎の農業の未来、ひいては日本の農業の未来のためにご尽力されるお姿に、感銘を受けました。私も、目標に向けて努力を惜しまず、日本の未来を支える一員になりたいと強く思います。
This project also provides us an opportunity to meet with people in different industries.
All of the teachers who engaged in this project make an effort to change Japan’s future and that really impressed me.
I want to be a person who exerts my effort to change the future of Japan.

まだ20歳。もう20歳。
いくつになっても、新しいことを始めるには勇気が必要ですが、飛び込んでみると、より輝かしい未来が待っているような気がしてきます。
また来週も楽しんでいきたいと思います！
Some people might feel it’s still 20 years old.
Others might think it’s already 20 years old.
No matter how old we get, we need courage to start new things.
However, when we jump into it, the bright future is waiting for us.
