soothing rendition

優しい歌を聞いて、ロバは本当に幸せそうです。

オハイオ州マレンゴの動物保護区のロバが、この保護区の共同設立者の腕の中で、「Somewhere Over the Rainbow」のなだめるような優しい歌に合わせてリラックスしていました。

今日の英語

　donkey：　ロバ
　animal sanctuary：　動物保護区域、鳥類保護区域
　Marengo： マレンゴ ※アメリカ合衆国オハイオ州モロー郡の村
　cofounder：　共同創立者　※co-founder
　soothing rendition：　なだめるような優しい歌、なだめるような優しい演奏
　Somewhere Over the Rainbow：　虹のかなたに　※「Over the Rainbow」も同。映画「オズの魔法使」のために作られた曲。

「〜に合わせて」の「to」
　前置詞「to」は「〜へ」という意味で使われることが多く、例えば「I went to the restaurant.（私はレストランへ行った。）」など、後ろに場所が来ることが多いです。

　しかし、「to」には「〜に合わせて」「〜に合った」という意味もあります。

　「dance to the music」は「音楽に合わせて踊る」です。

　また「車のキー」は「the key to the car」と言います。これは「車に合ったキー」すなわち「車のキー」ということです。

「今日の英語」では「relaxed in the arms of the sanctuary’s cofounder to a soothing rendition of Somewhere Over the Rainbow」で、この「to」が使われています。

　ただ、「relaxed」と「to」の間に、「in the arms of the sanctuary’s cofounder」が入っているのでこの「to」の意味がややわかりにくくなっているかもしれません。
