【Get Back 第２話】ジョージがスタジオに来なくなった時の　ジョンとポール2人きりの会話（英訳）

ディズニー＋の「Get Back」面白かったですね。

このドキュメンタリーの見どころは「曲を作る、動く、しゃべる、あの曲をリアルに演奏する ビートルズが見られる！」というところにつきるのかなと思いますし、解散の理由とか、あまり興味ないのです（解散の理由なんて１つじゃないでしょうし、するしかなかったのかなとも思ってます）が、第２話の最初の方の、ジョージがスタジオを出て行ってしまった後の、ジョンとポールの2人きりの会話のシーンはとても興味深かったです。

彼らは普段どんな感じの会話をしていたのかしら〜という、アイドルのオフショットがみたい、ただのイタいファン心理です。

会話は、英語がさっぱりな私なりに、字幕と、Google先生で、解釈したのですが、ジョンのしゃべりがイマイチわからなかったです。

英語がイケてる人的にはどうなんでしょうか。ニュアンスあってるのでしょうか。字幕のとおり、ジョンが「保身優先の僕には分かる」とか言ってるのでしょうか。（ポールに気を使って言っているのでしょうか？）
お気づきの点あったら、ぜひ教えていただきたいです。

※このシーンだけみると、ポールだけ悪い（ずれてる）っぽくみえますが、全編みると、ジョージは結構ジョンに傷ついてると思います。

※リンゴはハブられたのか。。（仕方がないかもしれない。）

※HELP!!  とくに英語がよくわからなかったところはコチラ（マジメな中学生ならわかりそう）

＞ because I’ve been so frightened,
ジョンが怖がるのだろうか。。（嫌味な言い方をしているのか？）

＞You have always been boss.
ボスだったのか、ボスでありつづけているのか。。（「だった」だと、その後ジョンが反論しているのがちょっと変？）

＞I’ve not only felt guilty about the way
the way ：なにに罪悪感を感じたのか？　（ディズニーは、「可能性を潰したこと」と言っているが、文脈で考えるしかない？）
not only felt ：罪悪感を感じただけではなくて、なんなの？

＞because that was my game, you know, but me goals, the’re still the same. Self-preservation,you know.
ここらへん、ディズニーの字幕がはしょりすぎているような。
ニュアンスがよくわかりません。。

Part2：第8日〜16日目 00:11:39〜

＜ジョージがスタジオに来なくなり、ジョンは昼食時に到着して、ポールと２人だけでカフェで話し合う（スタッフ隠し撮り）＞

P；So Where’s　George?
ジョージは？

J：Well, he doesn’t want to be here,
来たくないんだよ。

P：He just said, “ I’ll do it at home”
家にいたいって言ってた。

J：
Yeah.　Well, that’s what he’s gonna do now. He’s gonna go home,and so am I, you know.
I’m gonna go home to record in the studio, rather than go through this with anybody…

そりゃ、家に帰りたいだろう。俺もだ。ここでみんなとやるより、家で録音したほうがましだ。

P：Yes, sure.

J：
It’s like George said he didn’t get enough satisfaction anymore,
because of the compromise he had to make to be together.

It’s a festering wound that we’ve allowed to…
And yesterday we allowed it to go even deeper, and we didn’t give him any bandages.
And when he is that far in, we have egos.

ジョージは満足できないってことだろう。一緒にやるには妥協しなければいけないから。

そういう思いも、俺たちがやっててきたんだ。
昨日もより深く傷つけた。ジョージがそうなった時、俺たちはなにも助けなかった。こっちもエゴがあるから。

P：
The thing is, that’s what I was trying to say to George, you know,
whereas, previously I would have said, “Take it there with “~~~~~~~~~♪” .
But, I was trying, last week, to say, “Now take it there, Anything you like. Put whatever you..”

そうしようとしてたよ。
前は、「こう弾いて〜」とか言ってたけど、先週は「そこは好きに弾いて、好きに入れちゃって」と言うようにしてたよ。

J：
You see, the point is now, we both do that to George this time, and because of the buildup to it.

要するに、ジョージの不満があるから、今回俺たちは、そうしたってことだ。

P：
Year, we treat him a bit like that. See ‘cause he knows what we’re on about.
But I do think that he’s right.
That’s why I think we’ve got the problem now, you know, the four of us.
You go one way, George one way and me another.

そう、俺たちはそうしたんだけど、見え見えだった。
実際、ジョージの言うことは当たっている、俺たち４人、ジョージも俺も、みんな別々の方向に進んでいる。

But I know it’ll apply to all of us, if one day you can all be singing like you sing.
George can be really playing, I mean, like he plays, not like I keep trying to make him play

でも、みんなまたうまくいくと思ってるんだ。　いつか、君が歌うようにみんなで歌えるなら。ジョージもなんの指図も受けず弾ける日が来るよ。

J：
Yeah, okay, because you’re afraid that how he’ll play won’t be like you want him to play,
and that’s what we do, and that’s what you do to me.
And I’m not gonna tell you what to play.

でも、君は、思うようにジョージが弾かないことが嫌だから、そうするし、俺にも指示する。
俺は、お前にこうやれとは言わないよ。

P：
See, that… that seems to be the trouble is that
if you’d have been able to say that on the occasion.
Just even to say “Look, I’m not gonna say anything about the song because it’s very difficult, I’m gonna really try and now…”

そこが問題だ。君は何か言うべき時でも、「この曲むずかしいから、何も言えないな。やってみよう」と言うだけだ。

J：
You Know, I’ve always done the numbers like that.
俺は、ずっとそうやって曲を作ってきたじゃん。

Now, the only regret about the past numbers is when, because I’ve been so frightened,
I’ve allowed you to take it somehwere there I didn’t want.

今までの曲で後悔しているのは、萎縮して君が曲を僕が思うのと違う方向に持っていくのを許してたことだ。

And then, my only chance was to let George take over, or interest George in it.

それで、俺が唯一やれたことといえば、ジョージに拒否させたり、ジョージに興味をもたせたりしたことだ。

If you give me your suggestions, let me reject them and pinch the one I like…
… is where my writing side is.
Same goes for the arranging.　
I don’t want it to… I don’t know.

君が提案するなら、ボツにもさせてくれ。よかったらいただくから。
僕の書いた曲のアレンジも同じことだ。
いやなんだ。なんといえばいいかわからない。

P：
I know. I do Know. I know what you mean, yeah.
わかる、わかるよ。君の言いたいことは、わかるよ。

J：
’Cause there was a period there none of us could actually say anything about your arrangements

誰も君のアレンジに、何も言わない時期があっただろ、君がぜんぶ却下するから。

I’d have to tell George and I would just say, you know, like you do about me…

俺は、ジョージに愚痴るしかできない。いつも正しいポール様だから。

and a lot of the times you were right, and a lot of the times you were wrong.
Same as we all are,
but I can’t see the answer to that.
Because you… you ‘ve suddenly got it all, you see.

J：
well, alright. I’m just telling you what I think.
I don’t think The Beatles revolve around the four people.
It might be a fuckin’job.
俺が思ったことを言っているだけだ。
俺はもう、ビートルズは４人でやっているとは思えない。
ただのクソ仕事だ。

P：
You know, but I tell you what.I tell you one thing. what I think…
The main thing is this…
You have always been boss.
Now I’ve been, sort of, secondary boss.
ひとつだけ言わせてよ、つまりこういうことだよ。
君はずっとボスだよ。　　　※ディズニー： 君はボスだった
今はある種、僕は２番目のボスだけど。

J：
Not always.
常にそーじゃないよ。

P：
No, listen.Listen. No,always!
いや、いや、ずっとだよ。

Really, I mean, it is gonna be much better if we can actually just stick together and say,
“Look, George, on ‘I’ve got a feeling’ I want you to do it exactly like I play it”
and he’ll say “I’m not you, and I can’t do it exactly like you do it”.

僕がいいたいのは、もっとお互いに一緒に仲良く言い合えば、よくなると思うんだよ。
「ジョージ、僕の言った通りに弾いてよ」と言ったら、ジョージが「僕は君じゃないからできないよ」みたいにさ。

J：
But this, this year, what you’ve been doing and what everybody’s been doing…
I’ve not only felt guilty about the way we’re all guilty about our relation ship to each other
‘cause we could do more.

And look,　I’m not putting any blame on you.
I’ve suddenly realised this, because that was my game, you know,
but me goals, the’re still the same.
Self-preservation,you know.

今年、君がやってきた、みんながやってきたこと

もっとよくできたから。

君のせいって言うんじゃなくて、気づいたんだよ。だって、自分のことだし。

※ディズニー：
君が今までしてきたことや人間関係の問題、それが可能性を潰したことや、皆が責任を感じていることに、君は気づいたんだよ。
保身優先の僕には分かる。
でも、僕も君も結局は自分を守りたいんだ。

I know what I like, I’ve let you do what you want and George too, you know.
俺は君が、ジョージがやりたいようにやることが好きだ。

If we want him, if we do want him,
I can go along with that because the policy has kept us together.
皆が彼を求めるなら、俺は従うよ。皆の考えで結束してたんだから。

P：
Well, I don’t know, you know.
See, I’m just assuming he’s coming back.

うーん、よくわからないや。
僕は、ただ、ジョージは戻ってくると思ってるよ。

J：
Well, do you want..

P：
If he isn’t, then It’s a new problem.
And probably when we’re all very old we’ll all agree with each other,
and we’ll all sing together.

戻って来なかったら、それは新たな問題だ。
それに、もっと年を取れば、お互い分かり合えるだろうし、みんなで歌えるよ。

＜この後ジョージと話し合い、ライブやレコーディングの計画を変更したりして、とりあえずジョージは帰ってきます＞
