２．１　細かな観察

これまでに天才的な発見や発明が今日の科学技術の進歩に大きな役割を果たしたのは事実でしょう。科学技術関係分野での日本人のノーベル賞受賞者とその業績などはその例でしょう。しかし、誰もがこのような高度な発明や発見ができる訳ではありません。

　今までの色々な技術や現象を組み合わせたり、改善したり、応用することで新しい技術や利便性を見つけることも可能です。松下電器産業の松下幸之助氏もこのようなアプローチで大会社の基礎を作られたのだと私は思います。松下電器産業の松下幸之助氏に関する著書をお書きになっている水野博之元松下電器産業副社長はこのような力を「構想力」と定義されています。

　天才的ではないけれど社会の発展に寄与し、環境保護、省エネルギーなどの諸問題に取り組める新しい方法、技術、サービスを私たちが生むにはどうすればいいでしょうか。注意深い観察力、多くの意見を聞き判断できる姿勢、優れた知覚力、自らの実践力、苦難にも耐える耐久力・持久力、他に迷惑をかけない配慮、そして感謝する気持ち等を私たちが持つことだと私は思います。

なお、水野博之氏には高知工科大学副学長、広島県産業科学技術研究所所長をされていた2002年にお目にかかり、私の発明品である節電虫に関するアドバイスなどいただき、お世話になりました。

「松下幸之助氏から学んだこと」と題して２００２年１１月に２回も講演を拝聴できる機会に私は恵まれました。一人は松下電器産業株式会社副社長を勤められた水野博之氏で、もう一人が松下政経塾一期生で広島県県会議員の平　浩介氏でした。

松下幸之助氏に関する著書は多くあります。よく知られているように、松下幸之助氏は学歴、金、健康では３無状態でした。そのために彼は人間として、企業経営者として最も大切で基本的なこと「よく聞く、見る、考える、努力する」を実践されたとのことです。もちろん、これ以外に多くの学ぶ点があると思いますが、私個人とすれば多少似たような境遇をも重ね合わせてこれらは私によく響くことなのです。

　　写真は節電虫開発のきっかになったファクシミリ（リコー製、待機消費電力24ワット時）です。このファクシミリの待機時の消費電力の大きさと通信時（受信と送信）の動きを細かに観察したことが待機電力を99%も節電することを可能にした節電技術開発の元になりました（1994年）。 The photo shows a facsimile machine (manufactured by Ricoh, with standby power consumption of 24 watts per hour), which was the trigger for the development of the power-saving device. The development of the technology was based on detailed observations of how big the power consumption of this facsimile machine in standby mode was and of its movements during communication (receiving and transmitting documents), which realized the stand-by electricity saving as much as 99% (1994).

2.1 Detailed observation

It is probably true that genius discoveries and inventions have played a major role in the progress of science and technology today. Nobel Prize winners in science and technology fields and their achievements are good examples of such discoveries. However, not everyone can make such advanced inventions and discoveries.

　It is also possible to find new technologies and conveniences by combining, improving, and applying various existing technologies and phenomena. I think that Mr. Konosuke Matsushita of Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. also laid the foundation for a large company with such an approach. Mr. Hiroyuki Mizuno, the former vice president of Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd., who wrote books about Mr. Konosuke Matsushita of Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd., defined such power as “conceptual power”.

How can we create new methods, technologies, and services that are not geniuses, but that contribute to the development of society and address issues such as environmental protection and energy conservation? I believe that we must have the ability to observe carefully, to listen to and judge many opinions, to have good perception, to practice our own skills, to have the endurance to endure hardships, to be considerate of others, and to be appreciative.

I met Mr. Hiroyuki Mizuno in 2002 when he was Vice President of Kochi University of Technology and Director of the Hiroshima Prefectural Institute of Industrial Science and Technology, and I am grateful to him for his advice on Setsuden-mushi of my own invention.

I was fortunate to have the opportunity to hear the lecture twice in November 2002, whose title was "What I learned from Mr. Konosuke Matsushita." One was Mr. Hiroyuki Mizuno, who served as the vice president of Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd., and the other was Mr. Kosuke Taira, a member of the Hiroshima Prefectural Assembly, a member of the inaugural class of Matsushita Institute of Government and Management.

There are many books about Mr. Konosuke Matsushita. As is well known, Mr. Konosuke Matsushita had no education, money and health. For that reason, he practiced the most important and basic things of "listening, watching, thinking, striving" as a human being and a business owner. Of course, I think there are many other things to learn, but for me personally, these things sound a lot to me because I have some similar circumstances.
