【英検1級英作文】電子投票は推進すべきか？/ Agree or disagree: Electronic voting should be promoted.

英検1級英作文の練習記録であるこのnote、本日は日英併記で電子投票について書きます。

 I am busy preparing for Eiken Grade 1 test. In this post, I am going to share with all of you about electronic voting in English and Japanese.

電子投票は推進すべきか？/ Agree or disagree: Electronic voting should be promoted.

 I agree that electronic voting should be promoted. I have three reasons to back up my opinion.

　私は、電子投票の推進に賛成します。私の意見をサポートする理由が３つあります。

 Firstly, in Japan, nowadays, we go to the voting boxes during elections. it is difficult to go there for people with disabilities. They can mail their votes. However, they have to order papers from the elections board. it requires a lot of work. if they fill their ballots electronically, they could do it from their homes without physically going to the voting offices.

　まず始めに、今日の日本では、私たちは選挙で投票所に行きます。それは、障害を持つ人にとって難しい場合もあります。彼らは、郵便で投票することもできますが、選挙管理委員会に用紙をオーダーしなくてはいけません。これは大変面倒なことです。もし、電子投票が実現したら、彼らは投票所に行くことなく、自宅から投票することができます。

 Secondly, a counting system of non-electronic voting causes troubles. For example, in 2000, at the U.S. presidential election, a recount happened in Florida. Florida used a punch card system and some cards didn't have the complete holes. Thus, the machines couldn't count correctly. Electronic voting might count properly without inconveniences.

　次に、電子投票でない選挙システムはトラブルを起こします。例えば、2000年のアメリカ大統領選挙では、フロリダで再集計が起きました。フロリダはパンチカードシステムを使っていましたが、その中に、不完全な穴のカードがあったのです。ですので、集計機は正確にカウントできませんでした。電子投票は、不便なく適切に集計ができるかもしれません。

 Finally, these days, in Japan, turnout is quite low. In 2019, an Upper house election was held. However, turnout was under 50 percent. Especially, people aged 18 and 19 whose elective ratio is only 30 percent. To go to voting places and to write the name of candidates is sorely anachronism. Younger people are used to use their cell-phones. It might contribute to  increasing the turnout of young people to implement electronic voting.

　最後に、最近日本では投票率が非常に低くなっています。2019年、参議院選が行われました。しかし、投票率は50%以下でした。特に、18歳、19歳のの投票率はわずか30%でした。投票所に行き、候補者の名前を書くことは非常に時代遅れです。若者は携帯電話を使うことに慣れています。電子投票を施行することは、若者の投票率アップに貢献するかもしれません。

 In reality, electronic voting might have damage such as hacking and cost overrun. However, in terms of equality of voting chance, correct counting and the increasing of turnout, we should encourage adopting electronic voting.

　実際、電子投票はハッキングや費用超過などの問題があるかもしれません。しかしながら、投票する権利の公平性、正確な集計、そして投票率のアップという点において、我々は電子投票を促進するべきではないでしょうか。
