今回は「The Downward Spiral」(1994) より #3 「Heresy」を和訳します。

謙遜に包まれ 神と共に焼かれ
こんなもののために命を捧げるのか？

最終2フレーズは明確に歌われていませんが、ブックレットに歌詞として記載されています。(Bridge の裏で実はリピートされているとか)

キリスト教、及びその盲目的な信者に対する痛烈な批判が述べられています。その"救い"をエサに、次々と人々を引き込み、その"教え"の名のもとに人を、ひいては社会を操っていく。時に盲目的な信者によって、非信者は攻撃される。この構図は21世紀も変わっていません。自らの精神の安寧を得ることが目的だった宗教は、どこでこのような"システム"に成り果ててしまったのでしょうか...?

ニューウェーブからの影響が感じられるデジタルなビートを基調とした、これぞインダストリアルといった一曲。1st アルバム「Pretty Hate Machine」の作風を彷彿させます。
