「働き方革命！時間を投資して人生を充実させる方法」

 ぼくはいま香川県のゲストハウスで働いているのですが、海外からのゲストさんが多く、英語を使う機会がこれまでと比べてめちゃくちゃ増えました。

Google翻訳でなんとか頑張れないことはないものの、スムーズに会話できた方がゲストの満足度も上がりやすいですし、ぼく自身も海外の文化などを正しく理解できるので嬉しい。

というので、最近は英語の勉強を頑張っています。

アウトプットの機会をガンガン増やして学ぶのが基本的には効率がいいと思うので、しばらく英語で note を書いてみます。

現時点の目標は、「TOEIC700 over」です。がんばる！

今回は、喜多川泰さんの「賢者の書」から学んだ内容を書きました。日本語訳は英語本文の後に書いていますので、もし内容に興味があれば読んでみてください。

"Work Revolution! How to Invest Your Time to Enrich Your Life”

"Investment means converting your assets into something you can't use now and waiting for them to greatly increase in value in the future."

I like the ideas of an author named Yasushi Kitagawa and often read his books. The Book of the Wise is the first book he wrote.

A boy named Said goes on a journey to meet nine wise men to become the greatest sage. Each wise man teaches Said an important idea. The quote at the beginning is from one of these wise men.

"The only asset we have that can be invested is time."

This book explains that time is the only asset that can be invested through the way we work.

"Working in a way that converts all your time into money is not investment because you are immediately exchanging all your assets for something else..."

The idea is that working in a way that doesn’t immediately convert your time into money is an investment.

Recently, there was a discussion about whether employees should be paid for attending company parties. According to this idea, attending company parties for pay would be considered "consumption" or "waste."

On the other hand, attending a party to make others happy might be called an "investment."

Personally, I think it’s better not to attend parties where I can't feel happy, but I feel like I want to spend time with people who think more like the latter.

I believe that people who think this way will be surrounded by others who value them, increasing their own happiness, so the time spent at these parties would actually be an "investment."

"Working for money for 8 hours a day is enough. Spend the remaining time working in ways that are not for money."

The wise man says that you don't need a lot of money to live, and working 8 hours a day is enough.

The remaining time should be used for studying to improve skills and knowledge, reading books to expand your understanding, or helping others. These activities seem to be more valuable than working for money.

The 2 hours of working in ways that are not for money are said to be far more meaningful than the 8 hours of working for money. So, I want to incorporate a little bit of this kind of work into my daily life.

#働き方革命！時間を投資して人生を充実させる方法

「投資とは自らの持つ財産を今は使えないものに換えて、将来大きく価値が上がるのを待つこと。」

喜多川泰さんという著者さんの考え方が好きで、よく彼の本を読みます。賢者の書は、喜多川さんの書いた最初の1冊です。

サイードという少年が、最高の賢者になるべく9人の賢者に会いに行く旅をします。それぞれの賢者はサイードにとって重要な考え方を教えてくれるんですが、冒頭の一節は、ひとりの賢者がサイードに伝えた教えです。

「我々の持つ、唯一投資できる財産は、時間じゃ」

本書の中では、時間が投資できる唯一の財産であることを、「働き方」を通して伝えます。

「働いた時間すべてをお金に換えるような働き方は、その場ですべての財産を別のものに換えて受け取ってしまっているから投資ではない・・・」

その場でお金に換えない働き方は投資になる、という考え方です。

ちょっと前に、「会社の飲み会に参加するなら給料は発生するか？」みたいな話が話題になっていましたが、この考え方はその場でお金に換えているので「消費」もしくは「浪費」になってしまいそうですよね。

逆に、「まわりの人を楽しませるため」みたいな考え方で参加する飲み会は「投資」と呼べるのかもしれません。

そもそも個人的には Happy になれなそうな飲み会には参加しない方がいいという考え方なのですが、心情的には前者より後者の考え方をしている人と一緒の時間を過ごしたいと思っちゃいます。

で、たぶん後者の考え方をしている人の周りには人を大事にしている人が集まりそうですし、結果としてその人自身の幸福度も上がりそうなので、結果的に参加した飲み会の時間は「投資」になっているなーと思いました。

#「お金のために働くのは1日8時間で十分。残りの時間をお金のためではない働き方をする」

生きていく（食べていく）のにそんなにたくさんのお金は必要なく、8時間も働けば十分だと賢者はいいます。

余った時間は、技術や知識を向上させるために勉強したり、本を読んで知識や見聞を広げたり、だれかのために動いたり、そういう使い方をするのがいいみたいです。

お金のためではない働き方をする2時間は、お金のために働く8時間よりもはるかに意味があるらしいので、毎日少しでいいから、お金のためではない働き方を取り入れていこうと思います。
