It's interesting that my mother collects thimbles. It's popular hobby in America? I have never heard of that hobby. In oversea, there may be many beautiful thimbles.

Even if I don't live in Tokyo, I sometimes buy "Tokyo Banana" for my family and friends. Have you heard of it? Of course, Bananas can't be harvested in Tokyo. But the banana-flavored sweet is popular as souvenir. My family would be happy if I gave it, but my friends would feel inadequate. They are gourmets, so they like unusual delicious things.

Everyone like Pokemon, so Pokemon goods would be welcomed by everyone in Japan. How is Pokemon actually perceived in America?

日本語による所感

交換日記をしているアメリカ人先生のお母さまが「指ぬき」を集めるのが趣味だそうで。正直なところ、指ぬきって全く馴染みが無くてどんなものか知りませんでした。ググったところ、指に装着して裁縫の際に針を押すためのアイテムだそうで。なるほど、裁縫に縁遠い人間だから知識無いわけだわ。指輪顔負けの綺麗な物とかあるのかな。そのコレクションを見てみたい。

後半は地元に帰省する際のお土産についての話題。私は関東に住んでいるのですが、そういう人間にとって東京ばな奈は心強いアイテム。バリエーションも色々ありますもんね。でも、ハイセンス女子の友達には定番を外したイケてる物を買いたいという葛藤もありまして……。今年もそろそろお盆が近づいてきたのでお土産を買わなくちゃ。ひとまずデパ地下でも行くか～。

あと最後にちょこっとポケモンの話題が出てますが、アメリカでもやっぱり人気だと先生が教えてくれました。先生の感覚だと、ポケモンの代表選手ピカチュウは、スポンジボブ・ミッキー・スヌーピーというそうそうたる顔ぶれに比肩しているらしいですよ。
