Jakuchu's birthday memorial service during the temple treasure exhibition at Hozo-ji
The other day, the memorial service for the 306th birthday of Jakuchu Ito was held at Hozo-ji Temple, the family temple of the Ito family. The day I went to see the "Temple Treasure Exhibition" at the temple was a memorial service, so I attended at the last seat.
The tomb built by Jakuchu remains in the temple. Since it was exposed to the wind and rain for many years, there was a risk of recollection, so in 2016, the "Ito Jakuchu Relatives' Tomb" was preserved and repaired for the purpose of honoring Jakuchu and the Jakuchu faction and maintaining the grave and moved to the main hall.
After watching the temple treasure exhibition, walk to Nishiki Market, which is about a 5-minute walk from Hozo-ji Temple. First of all, I visited the Nishiki Shrine that I introduced last time, and then walked around the arcade alley where the shops were lined up. Jakuchu's pictures and letters were jumping on the banners from overhead and the shutters of the stores.
Jakuchu was born as the eldest son of the blue-backed fish wholesaler "Masuya" at the western end of Nishikikoji and took over the family business at the age of 23. Nishiki, But at the age of 40, he devoted himself to painting with his younger brother Sogon (Hakusai).
Market is famous as a kitchen in Kyoto, but it has become more famous as the birthplace of Jakuchu. Before the Corona turmoil, tourists from all over the country were rushing in due to the “Jakuchu boom”.
