湖水に立つ鳥居。 【湖水の風景Ⅰ】 　A torii that stands in the lake. [Lake scenery I]

伝統文化や、文化継承に欠かせない技術などに興味をもつ者には、京都は宝の山。当然、京都を訪れる頻度が多くなる。そして京都の次が琵琶湖のある滋賀。湖西や湖東、湖北は自然の恵みの宝庫であることは言うまでもない。また、京都に隣接するということから神仏信仰の篤い地域でもある。

Kyoto is a treasure trove for those who are interested in traditional culture and techniques that are indispensable for cultural succession. Naturally, the frequency of visiting Kyoto increases. Next to Kyoto is Shiga, where Lake Biwa is located. It goes without saying that Kosei, Koto, and kohoku are treasure trove of the blessings of nature. In addition, because it is adjacent to Kyoto, it is an area where the belief in God and Buddha is serious.

琵琶湖、湖西には神聖な山として知られている「比良山」がある。その比良山を祭神にしていた「白鬚(しらひげ)神社」(現在の祭神は猿田彦命)は、湖畔の国道161号線沿いにある。
この白鬚神社の大鳥居は、本殿前にあるのと、もう一つ、国道を挟み湖水の中に立つ朱の鳥居がある。広島・宮島の厳島神社によく似ていることから「近江の厳島」と称されている。

Lake Biwa and Kosei have "Mt. Hira", which is known as a sacred mountain. "Shirahige Shrine" (currently the deity is Sarutahiko no Mikoto), whose deity was Mt. Hira, is located along National Route 161 on the shore of the lake. The large torii gate of Shirahige Shrine is in front of the main shrine, and there is another vermilion torii gate that stands in the lake across the national road. It is called "Itsukushima in Omi" because it resembles Itsukushima Shrine in Hiroshima and Miyajima.

この白鬚神社の鳥居は、厳島神社の大鳥居と同じく「両部鳥居」といわれているもの。片方に柱が3本あり両方で6本あるのが特徴である。水中にある鳥居は、柱の置く場所の基礎は作られているようだが、柱が地中に埋め込まれているわけではなく、ただ置いてあるだけ。置くには上に重みが必要である。その重みが鳥居の「笠木(島木)」の部分に重石をいれて押さえつけている。これだけで安定している、というから不思議である。

The torii gate of Shirahige Shrine is called "Ryobu torii gate" like the large torii gate of Itsukushima Shrine. The feature is that there are 3 pillars on one side and 6 pillars on both sides. The torii gate underwater seems to have a foundation for the pillars, but the pillars are not buried in the ground, they are just placed. The weight puts a heavy stone in the "Kasagi (Shimaki)" part of the torii and holds it down. It is strange that this alone is stable.

こういった水中に鳥居がたつ神社は全国で8カ所あるらしい。厳島神社の鳥居をはじめ陽が出るとき、沈むときの美しさは格別である。幻想的な景色として、またパワースポットとしても多くの人を集めているようだ。

It seems that there are eight shrines with torii gates in the water. The beauty of the sun when the sun rises and the sun sets, including the torii gate of Itsukushima Shrine, is exceptional. It seems that many people are gathering as a fantastic view and as a power spot.
