【和訳】"Satisfied" by Original Broadway Cast of Hamilton（「ハミルトン」）
ミュージカル「ハミルトン」は、2015年にニューヨークのオフブロードウェイ、続けてブロードウェイで上演され、たちまち高評価を得て大人気となり、2016年にはトニー賞やグラミー賞など各賞に輝きました。
舞台は1776年から1804年にかけてのアメリカ合衆国。
独立を賭けて本国イギリスと戦い、独立後は奴隷制や連邦制を巡って熾烈な権力争いを繰り広げ、その数多の犠牲の中から今日に至る発展の基礎を築き始めた時代のアメリカ合衆国です。
なお、主人公ハミルトンはカリブ諸島からの移民でありながら、ジョージ・ワシントンの片腕として独立戦争を戦い、連邦政府の初代財務長官、また中央銀行や三権分立制度の創設者。現代の10ドル紙幣の肖像者。
その「革命」時代の偉人たちの物語を、黒人やラテン系アジア系の俳優がラップやHipHopで演じるという画期性。巧みなストーリー展開、躍動感あふれるダンスパーフォーマンスと随所に混ぜ込まれた小道具の使い方の面白さ。見どころ満載のミュージカルです。もちろん、音楽がすばらしい。
今回の和訳は、前半幕中盤に置かれた曲、 "Satisfied" 。
ハミルトンの妻となるイライザ・スカイラーの姉、アンジェリカ・スカイラ―の物語。アンジェリカ役の Renee Elise Goldsberry がハミルトンとの出会いと想いを切々と激しくまたコミカルに歌い上げます。
200年前のアメリカ上層階級の話しでありながら、現代社会にもどこか通じるかもしれない男女の物語。
