カラム・スコットが音楽の世界で活躍するきっかけになったのは、2015年4月のイギリスのオーディション番組"Britain's Got Talent"予選。
そこで歌唱したRobynの"Dancing On My Own"が激辛(!)審査員Simon Cowellから最高評価のゴールデンブザーを得て今日に至っています。

そのCalum Scott版 "Dancing On My Own" がSpotifyで１０億回のストリーミングを達成したとのことです。それを祝してこの曲の和訳を再掲します。

Cannot believe I am saying this.. My version of ‘Dancing On My Own’ has been streamed over a BILLION times on Spotify. I always say I can never comprehend big numbers on my music so this is actually unreal to me!!!
From the day I recorded this in my mum’s back bedroom that I made into a studio whilst I was still working my 9-5 job in HR, I knew it was special. I sang the song at each competition I entered in Hull and at small festivals and it always reacted the same.
When my sister Jade Scott said she wanted us to apply for BGT I was sceptical but I played the big brother card and went along with this song in my back pocket. Performing it there and getting Simon Cowell’s Golden Buzzer changed my life.
I wouldn’t even hazard a guess at how many times I’ve sang it since and to how many people in total but every time I perform it, it still reacts the same as it did in the working men’s clubs back home.
Cannot thank every single one of those streams from you guys enough, and obviously would never have been able to do this without the genius herself, Robyn Konichiwa.

「僕の'Dancing On My Own'のバージョンがSpotifyで10億回以上ストリーミングされたよ！」なんてね、こんなこと言ってる自分が信じられません。いつも言っているように、僕の音楽が大きな数字を記録するなんて、僕にとって理解を超えたことで非現実的なことなんです。
僕がまだ人事部で9時～5時の勤務の仕事をしている時期に、母さんの寝室をスタジオ代わりにしてこの曲を録音したときから、これは特別な曲なんだとわかっていました。故郷のハルで、小さなフェスティバルに参加するたびにこの曲を歌いましたが、いつも同じ手応えをいただきました。
妹のJade Scottが一緒にBGTに応募しようと言ったとき、僕は上手くいくわけないと思ったけれど、無理してお兄さんらしく振舞って、この曲をポケットに忍ばせて出場しました。そこでこの曲を歌って、審査員のSimon Cowellからゴールデン・ブザーをいただいた、そのことが僕の人生を変えました。
それ以来、何回歌ったのか、延べ何人の人に歌ったか想像もつきませんが、演奏するたびに、故郷の町の人が集まるクラブで歌ったあの頃と同じような反応をいただきます。
皆さんからの視聴ストリームの一つ一つに感謝してもしきれませんし、なによりこれは、原作のRobyn Konichiwaさんの才能なくしてはなし得なかったことです。
